  <about><![CDATA[Julie Chibbaro is the author of Redemption, a novel of love and betrayal set in pre-colonial America.  Redemption was published by Simon &amp; Schuster/Atheneum in 2004, and won the American Book Award in 2005.  The book appeared on several lists:  Pennsylvania School Librarian Association's Top Ten, Book Sense Picks Nominated Title, Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA) Recommended Reading List, and the Children’s Literature Choice Recommended Reading List.  Redemption received excellent reviews from such noted journals as Newsday, Kirkus Reviews, and School Library Journal.  In 2006, Redemption was nominated for an ABE Award (Illinois High School Book Award).  As an author, Ms. Chibbaro has attended and spoken at book conferences such as the National Conference of Teachers of English (NCTE), where she gave a talk before 400 teachers on “The Art of Historical Fiction” for the Assembly on Literature for Adolescents (ALAN).  <br/><br/>A number of Ms. Chibbaro’s short stories have been published in literary journals such as The Prague Review, Catalyst Magazine, and Slingshot, and her articles have appeared in The Prague Post, The Montreal Gazette, and Central Europe Online, among others.  She served as a semi-finalist judge for the AWP’s Novel contest, and has volunteered her time to teach writing online to women in Afghanistan.  She teaches fiction and creative writing at the Gotham Writers Workshop in New York City, and is a member of the Authors Guild and the Society for Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators.<br/><br/>Julie Chibbaro studied writing at The New School, and with Gordon Lish.  She received scholarships to study with Clark Blaise at the Prague Writers Workshop, and with Janet Fitch, Lynn Freed and Mark Childress at the Squaw Valley Community of Writers.  At the New York Writers Institute, she took a Master class with Marilynne Robinson and Ann Beattie.  In 2003, she was given a writer’s grant to spend a month at the Vermont Studio Center with Jane Hamilton attending.  <br/><br/>Currently, Ms. Chibbaro is at work on a novel entitled Tworfans, a story about two sisters and their battle against cancer.  Her second novel for Simon &amp; Schuster, tentatively titled A Short History of Love &amp; Fever, a medical mystery about a teen girl’s hunt for Typhoid Mary, will be published in 2011.<br/>]]></about>
