About this author

An avid reader, I believe we have much to learn about the world, and ourselves, through explorations of the written word. Books are the threads of timeless human connection, and I strive, at least in some small way, to touch others through my writing.

Okay, enough of the heavy stuff. Let's get a little personal. I have worn many hats through my thirty-some years of living (and yes, that's as specific on my age as I'll get!) from C.N.A, to Animal ER Nurse, then from Accountant to a Graphic Designer, and now I've got a nice little vocation going as a photographer ( see www.karenfowlerphotography.com) - but the one thing I've always been is a writer. Blogs, essays, articles, poems, short stories- you name it, and I've been compelled to write it...more

How (Not) to Kiss a Toad by Elizabeth A. Reeves My rating: 4 of 5 stars Totally quirky and inventive, this paranormal romance was easy to read, easy to fall into for a few hours, and easy to love. I’m pretty sure there has to be a “next book” at least I hope so! Off […] Read more of this blog post »

Until Death Do Us Part by Lynda Hilburn
Until Death Do Us Part (Kismet Knight)
by Lynda Hilburn (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
Very short story introducing Kismet and the fact that she's a Therapist to vampires. I liked it very much, but I'd describe it more as a slice-of-life glimpse than an actual story with a plot arc. Good premise, interesting characters, I'll see if I c...more

All The Wild Children by Josh Stallings
All The Wild Children: A noir memoir
by Josh Stallings (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
I've been putting off writing a review of this book, because I just don't think any collection of words that I can come up with will do it justice. It's good, so very good that I'd like to take it home with me at closing time.

It may be a memoir, but...more
All The Wild Children by Josh Stallings
" Josh Stallings took the old adage, “write what you know” to heart and penned, “Beautiful, Naked, and Dead” and “Out There Bad” two amazing crime thrillers starring ex-marine turned strip club bouncer Moses McGuire. If you think that means Stalling... " Read more of this review »

Out There Bad by Josh Stallings
Out There Bad
by Josh Stallings (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
I read the first novel by Stallings (Beautiful, Naked & Dead) and loved that one, so I don't know why I was surprised to find myself deeply engrossed in Out There Bad as well. Maybe it's because I never love books in a series equally-- they're a...more

The Eclective: The Apocalypse Collection
by Emma Jameson (Goodreads Author)

This is a fabulous sampler of some of the most creative, talented indie authors on the market right now. Each story was inventive and wholly captivating. And I loved the way multiple genres were represented in the collection-- having a little bit of...more

Witchy Business by Eve Paludan
Witchy Business (Witch Detectives #1)
by Eve Paludan (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
A quick paranormal read... great characters, interesting setting and details. I was a little irritated by the way the main character Elle, went along with being man-handled by her so called friend... It felt a little too out of character and flimsy....more

Venice Vampyr by Tina Folsom
Venice Vampyr (Venice Vampyr, #1)
by Tina Folsom (Goodreads Author)
read in April, 2013
This was a steamy little novella that wasted no time getting to the goods, so to speak. Underlying all that was a decent plot and great characters that were fleshed out as much as they could be in the shorter novella format. Several inventive scenes...more

“My life has been shaped by the decision two people made over 24 years ago. They decided to adopt a child. They got me, and I got a chance at the kind of life all children deserve.”
Karen Fowler, Reflections on Motherhood

“One couldn’t be selective when remembering the past. Ignore the turmoil, chaos and pain – and the truly great memories would not shine with such luster.”
Karen Fowler, Memories For Sale

“The desire to procreate, in some, is so strong that it creates a sort of tunnel vision in the afflicted. One can’t see beyond trying to make a baby, and they never stop to think about what it will really be like once said baby has in fact, arrived.”
Karen Fowler, Reflections on Motherhood
