“The other option you have is to come to terms with this fucking life, as you call it, and put up with the suffering it involves. Put up with the suffering we all have to endure, always, to get through that and find and enjoy the happiness and joy that it brings us as well, in spite of our being alive.”

“He knew at once it was a human bone, when he took it from the baby who was sitting on the floor chewing it.”

“Erlender thought about Marion Briem and their shared story, which was now at an end. He felt a sense of loss and regret... He thought about their relationship, the experiences they had shared, the story that was part of him, that he could not and would not have done without. It was him.”

Polls
The best World* crime author of 2011?
- *World = located (or their books are located) outside the US, and/or outside the usual US mainstream culture. "Anywhere else in the World" is a good definition, then again if there's a really good Navajo or Hopi crime author, please add in the poll
- Crime = generic crime, procedural, mystery, thriller etc
- Either as an author who's really good book(s) were published in 2011, or whose really good book(s) you found in 2011 even if they were published before 2011. Essentially the author whose writing most gave YOU bookgasms in 2011 - since Goodreads readers have much better taste than the usual book critic for the magazines...
- If your choice of the best author YOU have read in 2011 is not in the poll options, please add it!
- For authors in the group: please don't add yourself in the poll options (someone else can do)...
- Reasons for your vote are welcome after voting. Why was he/she the best? Who else were really good?
- Poll options show in random order
- Poll open until December 28
