About this author

Michael Kingswood has written numerous science fiction and fantasy stories, including The Pericles Conspiracy, The Glimmer Vale Chronicles, and the Dawn of Enlightenment series. His interest in scifi/fantasy came at an early age: he first saw Star Wars in the theater when he was three and grew up on Star Trek in syndication. The Hobbit was among the first books he recalls reading.

Recognizing with sadness that the odds of his making it into outer space were relatively slim, after completing his bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering from Boston University, he did the next best thing - he entered the US Navy as a submarine officer. Almost seventeen years later, he continues to serve on active duty and has earned graduate degrees in Engin

Every now and then I stick my foot in my mouth.

You’re shocked, I know.

I came across thisopen letter to Brad Torgersenon Myke Cole’s blog via Larry Correia‘s Facebook feed. It got me fired up, and I decided to comment on it. Given I was irked and pressed for time because I had to leave topick up the kids from school, I was less than eloquent in getting my point across with my comment. Reading...

When I heard the ruckus that the perpetually offended crowd made over the title of this book, I absolutely HAD to read it, because I cannot abide those people. Because screw you if you can't take a joke.

This is the first of Mr. Gaiman's work that I'v

I liked it.

Vampires have been done to death, but Mr. Terrell found a way to keep them interesting and invest them with some mystery. I have to say I found the main character, Jelani, hard to identify with, because Dear Lord does that man overthink a

I'd never read any of Clive Barker's stuff before this. Saw a few movies based on his books before, but that's about it.

I have to say, the characters drew me in and the writing was engrossing. But I was thoroughly unimpressed with the bad guy. For as

Gotta say, I thoroughly hated Athena at the start of this book. Talk about a presumptuous, spoiled, self-indulgent, arrogant, little snit. But hey, a character doesn't have to be likable, she has to be interesting. And Athena certainly was interestin ...more

The first chapter almost made me stop listening, because it seemed like it was setting up nothing but a pity-fest, ala, "Oh look how beat down poor Davey is." That notion wasn't appealing. But the idea of being a teleporter was intriguing so I stuck ...more

The sequel to The Mote In God's Eye. Duh, it rocks. The shocker would be if it didn't. Though the first book was complete in itself, it was nice to see the story of the humans and moties come to a more complete resolution. And the fact that it center ...more

“Life is depressing and hopeless enough, without imbibing further depression and hopelessness through story. I don’t care how realistic people like to think that is. It’s not what inspires me, or makes me love and cherish a book or a television show or a movie. When I am imbibing fiction, I want to be inspired. I want bold tales, told boldly. I want genuine Good People who, while not perfect, are capable of rising beyond their ordinary beginnings. To make a positive difference in their world. Even when all hope or purpose might seem lost. Because this is what I think fiction—as originally told around the campfires, through verbal legend—ought to do, more than anything else: Illuminate the way, shine a spiritual beacon, tell us that there is a bright point in the darkness, a light to guide the way, when all other paths are cast in shadow.”
