About this author

JAClement lives near London with her partner and as yet, no dogs. She has been writing her fantasy series, "On Dark Shores", for some years but only uploaded the first book "The Lady" in 2011.

Book 2 in the series "The Other Nereia" is currently available as a single (and will also be packaged with "The Lady" in omnibus form) and book 3 - "The Mother" - is half written.

The first paperback, "On Dark Shores: Omnibus edition" is due out in the next couple of months and there's a deal of story yet to be told...

JAC works fulltime, commutes further than might be considered strictly necessary and would tell you what she does in her free time if she could remember the last time free time occurred.

She loves meeting readers and hearing feedback, so...more

"On Dark Shores" Sample: The Original Opening Text... (Science Fiction & Fantasy)
1 chapters   —   updated May 02, 2011 01:52pm
Description: This excerpt was condensed to three or four paragraphs in the final novel, for reasons of pace - but I've added it here for interest. This includes the original half-page of text which I ever wrote, but I think the new and improved beginning which is actually used in the novel opens it with much more of a kick. Any thoughts, do let me know... JAC

“It was a time of dark dreams. They washed in like flotsam on the night tide, slipping beneath doorways and window latches, rising through the streets and hills; and the little fishing-town of Scarlock foundered deep.”
J.A. Clement, On Dark Shores: The Lady

“The skeleton picked up the second skull, so worn as to barely be recognisable as such. The vertebrae fell and rolled like beads from a string.”

“Longed for him. Got him. Shit.”
Margaret Atwood

“Love isn't just about feeling sure of the other person, knowing what he would give up for you. It's knowing with certainty what you are willing to surrender for his sake. Make no mistake; each partner gives up something. Individual dreams are surrendered for a shared one.”
Robin Hobb, The Mad Ship

“The second thing you have to do to be a writer is to keep on writing. Don't listen to people who tell you that very few people get published and you won't be one of them. Don't listen to your friend who says you are better that Tolkien and don't have to try any more. Keep writing, keep faith in the idea that you have unique stories to tell, and tell them. I meet far too many people who are going to be writers 'someday.' When they are out of high school, when they've finished college, after the wedding, when the kids are older, after I retire . . . That is such a trap You will never have any more free time than you do right now. So, whether you are 12 or 70, you should sit down today and start being a writer if that is what you want to do. You might have to write on a notebook while your kids are playing on the swings or write in your car on your coffee break. That's okay. I think we've all 'been there, done that.' It all starts with the writing. ”
Robin Hobb

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.”
Marcus Tullius Cicero

“This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”
Dorothy Parker, The Algonquin Wits: Bon Mots, Wisecracks, Epigrams and Gags
