“This is who I am. I am loving but wounded, and I need someone to take me as I am.”
Luis Carlos Montalván, Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him

“I am, in fact, committed to being honest with myself so that I can overcome this situation. This includes not succumbing to the path of least resistance (denial) but rather the path of hardship which I know will lead to my evolution.”
Luis Carlos Montalván, Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him

“When he lay beside me with his dog-breath sighs, it was if he was saying, Give me your sadness. I will take it, as much as you need. If it kills us both, so be it. I am here.”
Luis Carlos Montalván, Until Tuesday: A Wounded Warrior and the Golden Retriever Who Saved Him

“As always when I was in trouble, I looked down at Tuesday. I could see his concern, but also his confidence in me. There was something about his eyes, when he looked at me, that always said, I believe in you, Luis.”

Erin Hello! My husband and I just saw you and Tuesday at the Olympia library. Thank you so much for a great and entertaining talk and thanks so much for all the work you do!

Carolee Horning Hi Luis,

I read your book a few months ago and I can't tell you what it meant to me. I too suffer from PTSD but mine was due to childhood trauma. I have a dog, a Boxer named Rupert. He will be four in July. He is not a service dog by title, and that wasn't his purpose when I got him. But he awakened a place in my heart that I never knew existed. His unconditional love helped me realize that I wasn't really living, and that I needed help, and I ultimately started therapy... You friended me back a couple weeks ago and I don't know if that was just because you were being kind to someone that loved your book and your story, if you know about the book I wrote... But either way, thank you for sharing your story, and for friending me on here. I always recommend your book, and know of at least three friends that bought it because of my recommendation. But most importantly, my parents read it and that helped them understand more about PTSD. I definitely do not suffer as severely as you do and have... but regardless, stories like yours and mine help others to understand.

This turned out a lot longer than I intended! :) Just know that I thank you!

Kayla Luis,
I am so glad that you put your story out there for all of us. Coming from a long line of military I understand SOME of the things you have been through with deployments and PTSD and what not. I love that you could find your peace through Tuesday. I recommend your story to everybody. Thank you for sharing your story and your friendship with all of us.

Chris Luis,
I just wanted to say I really enjoyed your book. As I read the book the bond that you and Tuesday have amazed me.I am so happy that he has helped you to with both your physical and psychological wounds. I believe I spoke with you several years ago on another site. I think it was Gather but I could be wrong. You caught my attention because my husband had also served in Iraq at about the same time you did during your first tour. You may have still been writing your book at that time. I had forgot about the book until I came across it on the e-book lending library for my local library. As soon as I saw it I remembered you and checked it out. Thanks so much for sharing the story. Also thank you for serving our country. I am sorry that you have had to endure what you have.

Chris

Kadambari Mehta I read your book early last year and was touched by how you were able to find emotional strength in Tuesday.

At the same time, the rampant prevalence of PTSD among vets in the United States was shocking and understandable at the same time.

I thought of your book when i came across the Texas Shootings that have been in the news. Was wondering what your take on that incident is.

I can only hope as many Veterans with social and emotional troubles are able to find strength in their lives.

Dear Sophie,

Thank you for the honor of your friendship.

We're so glad you are enjoying the book. I know there are some very dark parts, but it wouldn't be real if only Light was conveyed. You understand...

Indeed, the "pure love" of our beloved furry spirits connects us to our spiritual core -- it makes me smile to know you understand...

With blessings and golden hugs,
Luis & Tuesday

Sophie Luis, I am delighted by your friend request. I am reading your book now and I love it. I'm a bit stuck in the parts describing your war experiences just because they are heart wrenching. Important to read however. I will review it when I'm done, for sure. I've read many many books about people's relationships with animals, especially dogs, and the impact that the pure love and loyalty of an innocent creature has on their lives. Your book is one of the special ones.

Eileen I absolutely loved this book, and have joined the giveaway so that I can spread the joy to my friends and family. I have told so many friends and family members about this book.
I do hope it will be autographed, although if it is I'd be harder pressed to loan it out :)
Thank you for this inspirational book
