About this author

Courtney King Walker grew up Walnut Creek, California building rocket ships and rafts out of cardboard just so she could go to the moon and Niagara Falls. But a trip across the border to Tijuana was as exciting as it ever got.

After being banned from the kitchen after a few too many catastrophes, she discovered a love for writing, music and art, and eventually earned her BFA in graphic design at BYU.

She has lived in St. Louis, Chicago and San Francisco, and now resides in Salt Lake City with her husband and four children where she continues to pursue all things creative, including writing, designing, composing music and baking, with an emphasis on making a killer piecrust.

“I had the strange desire for a giant butterfly net to catch whatever was out there, as if it could be captured so easily.”
Courtney King Walker, On the Fringe

“Nothing could be purged without a body—no crying, no exertion, no pills to take away the pain or calm me down. Nothing. Instead, something ballooned inside me until I felt like I might explode. All I could do was sit there and drown in it, wondering why Claire affected me so much, wondering if she always would.”

“You know, there are good reasons to learn how to read. Poetry isn't one of them. I mean, so what if two roads go two ways in a wood? So what? Who cares if it made all that big a difference? What difference? And why should I have to guess what the difference is? Isn't that what he's supposed to say?

Why can't poets just say what they want to say and then shut up?”
Gary D. Schmidt, Okay for Now

“I almost cried. But I didn't, because if you're in seventh grade and you cry while wearing a blue floral cape and yellow tights with white feathers on the butt, you just have to curl up and die somewhere in a dark alley.”

Courtney Thank you Lani! It's getting exciting. I'm anxious to read Indelible, too!

message 3: by Lani

Lani Woodland On The Fringe is coming out soon. I'm excited to read it. :)

Courtney Thanks Jillian! Waiting for a debut release is eerily similar to being pregnant for 9months - except this is more like a 12-month baby. I'm hoping to get some ARCs before the end of the summer. Keep the great posts coming - we all benefit from "thinking" a little more deeply and a little more carefully.

Jillian -always aspiring- Hi, Courtney! I'm so glad you like the posts on the Book Lantern; it always intrigues me when I hear thoughts from authors about the blog because it's rather a different beast than other YA book blogs out there. Thank you for the kind words. Focusing on important issues in YA is one of our main goals, so I'm glad that resonated with you. I hope you continue to like what you read at the Lantern!

-Jillian

P.S. Lest I forget, congratulations with your book! I bet you're clamoring for October to come around so that it will be released out into the world. :)
