About this author

I'm a reader and only occasionally a writer. My comments here about the books I read are not meant as reviews. They are my reactions/thoughts.

Feel free to friend me; I love seeing what people are reading, how they're finding it and so on.

Generally I will accept all requests but there are a few things that make me pause:

We have absolutely no books in common and it looks like you're adding me to your list to promote your book. Then I'm all *sideeye*.

You hate kittens and/or Doctor Who.

I love when people discuss books with me, so feel free to (respectfully) argue your case for or against a book I hated/loved. I've been known to change my mind. (Actually.... I'm a Gemini, we're fairly fluid about stuff.)

Cat Hellisen is on page 184 of 529 of Middlesex: I'm conflicted. At times it skips along, at others it just feels turgid.

It's a little hard to rate this as a novel because in the grand scheme of things it's simply set-up. The whole book is arranging pieces on a chess-board, mapping out the way the story is going to go. As a complete novel, this wouldn't be satisfying,...more

More of Cat's books…
“No matter what the results, it is my choices that define me. And I will fight for them, even when it seems that failure is inevitable. Perhaps most especially then.”
Cat Hellisen, When the Sea is Rising Red

“In the end, we make our choices on our own. And no matter how stupid they are, we have to live—or die—with what we’ve done. Sometimes choosing our moment of death is the only freedom we have left.”
Cat Hellisen, When the Sea is Rising Red

“If there’s one thing my mother taught me, it is how to wear the perfect mask. Never show them what you’re really feeling because that’s how they hurt you.”
Cat Hellisen, When the Sea is Rising Red
