Peter's Recent Updates

Claire is on page 529 of 817 of Nicholas Nickleby: "[I]t will be generally found that those who sneer habitually at human nature, and affect to despise it, are among its worst and least pleasant examples." This and some other things I've been reading I'd like to eventually write about, for example, in one of those blogs I've been abandoning. The thing is, my head feels like it will explode. At least Thanksgiving dinner was scrumptious.

“What disturbs and depresses young people is the hunt for happiness on the firm assumption that it must be met with in life. From this arises constantly deluded hope and so also dissatisfaction. Deceptive images of a vague happiness hover before us in our dreams, and we search in vain for their original. Much would have been gained if, through timely advice and instruction, young people could have had eradicated from their minds the erroneous notion that the world has a great deal to offer them.”
Arthur Schopenhauer

“Books are not made to be believed, but to be subjected to inquiry. When we consider a book, we mustn't ask ourselves what it says but what it means...”
Umberto Eco, The Name of the Rose

“A good poem is a contribution to reality. The world is never the same once a good poem has been added to it. A good poem helps to change the shape of the universe, helps to extend everyone's knowledge of himself and the world around him.”
Dylan Thomas

“The story so far:
In the beginning the Universe was created.
This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.”
Douglas Adams, The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
