Born to a US Air Force family in Guatemala City.

Raised in Richmond, Virginia.

Studied at Richmond Professional Institute.

First artwork published professionnally: "Artificial Limb" in Gothic Blimp Works.

First comic work: "Eyes of Mars" and cover art for fanzine Graphic Showcase in 1967.

First professional assignment for Charlton Comics in 1969 ("Battle of Shiraz" in Flash Gordon #18).

In 1969 Kaluta began work on Carson of Venus, which appears as a back-up feature in Korak, Son of Tarzan (DC).

Recipient of the Shazam Award for Outstanding New Talent in 1971.

Began his run on The Shadow (DC) in 1973.

Start doing poster work for Christopher Enterprises in 1975.
