About this author

I am honoured to have had all three of my novels appear on the New York Times and USAToday Bestseller lists. I was a Semifinalist for Best Author in the 2011 and 2012 Goodreads Choice Awards. "Gabriel's Inferno" was a Semifinalist for Best Romance in 2011 and "Gabriel's Rapture" was a Finalist for Best Romance in 2012, in the Goodreads Choice Awards, as well.

The final novel in The Gabriel Series, "Gabriel's Redemption," was just released and it debuted at #6 on the New York Times Bestseller list (December 22).

My next book is "The Raven," and you can read more about it here: http://www.sylvainreynard.com/2013/11...

Dear Everyone,

As I mentioned in my last post, I'm penning a series of suggestions for writers. Also, I'll be answering some of your writing questions.

Many people have written to me asking about writer's block. Writer's block refers to the phenomenon of not being able to write. For a writer, this can be frustrating as well as alarming.

I have some suggestions for how to deal with writer's block.

I'm not quite finished with the Professor yet, so look for him to have a cameo in my next novel, "The Raven." And after that ….

Soulmates To my fellow Canadian ;) I just wanted to say that like everyone else, I was eagerly awaiting the release of Gabriel`s Redemption and when I finally got it, I was afraid to read it and I still haven`t :D
The reason for this is because I am going to cry once I finish this BEAUTIFUL, HEART WARMING, LITERAL ALL CONSUMING LOVE STORY because I want to just keep reading them forever!!!! Ok ok, I may be going overboard here, but seriously, I really hating reading when I was younger, but once I discovered Fan Fiction, I fell in love with reading. THEN I read the original of this story and I have to tell you, this is THE ONLY story that I`ve read that has made me cry. I cried because of the struggles that they both went through, but thru it all, their love and compassion that they have for one another was just so consuming.
Probably my favorite story that I have ever read to date.
I am a lover of romance, so I am very picky with what I read.
Anyhoo, I WILL read it cause I`d be an idiot not too and I just wanted to also say that I cannot wait for your next novel!!!!!
All the best to you and your family; here`s hoping that you have a fantastic 2014 ;)

Hello Karlaa. Thanks for your note.
I talk about the myth of the Monster and the Maiden - but I don't have in mind a particular source for that myth. It appears in various mythologies, including the story of Cupid and Psyche.

I can't remember which interview you're referring to because I mentioned the myth in more than one. However, a group of readers put together a database of interviews with me and the links can be found here: http://www.argyleempire.com/2013/03/h...

I hope this helps and best of luck on your Bachelor's thesis. Let me know how it goes. SR

message 156: by Karla

Karla Velázquez Hi SR,

I've been reminding you an interview I read a while. You talk about because "Gabriel's Inferno" was originally a fan fic of "Twilight". In the interview he says that "Twilight" is about the myth of the beast and the Maiden (I think), and you decided to take that myth to "real life" with Julia and Gabriel.

I want to say that I love this interview and I use it for my final Bachelor work. It's about the myth of the beast and the Maiden (was just preliminary ideas).

If you could help me find the link to the interview. I read so many I can not remember where exactly I saw. You would help me too for my final project.

If you don't remember (I think you has given many interviews that you may not do), don't worry, i keep looking.

Again I say that I am a big fan of Gabriel and I look forward on December 3.

:) x

Hello Cheryl,
Thanks for your kind words.
Penguin Australia controls the rights to my works in Oz/NZ so I'm afraid the question of audiobooks is up to them. I haven't heard from them on the subject, so it's possible something is in the works.
It might also be good for them to hear from a reader (or two?) who is interested in the audiobooks in Oz.
Sorry about that. If I hear anything, I'll post about it for sure.

The other vendor who sells my work in audio format (both download & CD) is this one: http://www.recordedbooks.com/index.cf...

But I'm not sure if they will ship to Australia ...

Thanks for writing to me and thanks for reading,

Joanne Hi Sylvain, thanks for adding me - I am a big fan of the Gabriel's Inferno series. I read them both so quickly, I couldn't put them down. I was gripped by the story and when I finished the second book I was sad it was all over, although I was pleased the way it ended, with Gabriel & Julia getting their Happily Ever After. I'm writing the third book as we speak and it's coming along nicely. But I'm afraid I don't have a release date yet. I hope to be able to release another teaser before the end of the year.

message 130: by Maria

Maria Hi Sylvain,
Just a note to let you know how much I enjoyed the Gabriel series! The first time I read the books, I read them both until the wee hours of the morning, since I couldn't put them down. I read them a second time, more slowly, and tried to savor them more. Delicious! So much better the second go-around. And this time, with the oh-so-perfectly-matched soundtrack in the background!

I was a stranger to romance/erotic romance until recently, and have since picked up other books in this genre, but the Gabriel series is in a class by itself - so much so that I think a third read-through is being planned. :) Obsessive, perhaps, but well-worth really, truly getting to know the characters on a deeper level. I've got all kinds of thoughts swirling around in my head as to what's going to happen to Julia and Professor Emerson in the third book. In fact, I might be driving myself mad by sheer thinking (read: obsession) with the series.

This is obviously a very premature question, so forgive me, but any ideas/thoughts on when the world might become acquainted with Book 3 of Julia's and the Professor's story? It's in the cards for me to black out that date completely for a sit-on-the-sofa-in-my-pajamas-and-devour-third Gabriel book-session.

Thanks again for writing the series. Know you've got a lifelong fan!

Maria Cole

Hello Debbie,
Thank you for these very kind words. I'm glad that you enjoyed the novels.

I haven't read Dorothy Dunnett. You've intrigued me. I'm going to look her up. Thank you.

The third book in the trilogy is coming along nicely and as ever, the snarky narrator is an entertaining companion.

All the best and thanks once again,
SR

message 128: by Debbie

Debbie Hello Sylvain,

I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Gabriel's Inferno and Gabriel's Rapture. In addition to the compelling characters and moving love story, I really appreciated the use of literature, art, history and travel that added so much richness to your novels. You have encouraged me to reach for books I haven't read in years and seek out ones I have yet to read.

Given your interest in the literature, art, and history of the Medieval and Renaissance periods, I wonder if you have ever read the work of Dorothy Dunnett? If not, I can't recommend enough that you pick up The Game of Kings (book 1 of the Lymond Chronicles.)

I was surprised to read that Gabriel's story will be a trilogy, as I thought the ending of Gabriel's Rapture was very satisfying. However, I am delighted to hear that the Professor is still whispering in your ear, and that Gabriel, Julia, and the acerbic "narrator" will be back! Thank you for sharing your talent with all of us. Debbie
