“Basil leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. “Look, Fin. I understand what you’re going through. Truly, I do. But we have mortals depending on us, so I need you to angel up.”
There was a long silence, and then Griffin blinked. “Did … did you just say angel up?”
“I did,” Basil replied blandly.
“That’s awesome.” Griffin chuckled, and then sighed and put down his spoon. He leaned back and looked at Basil ruefully. “I’ve been a real pain, haven’t I?”
“To say the least. Though I won’t deny I acted any better the first time it happened to me.”
“You gonna tell me about her?”
“How old are you?”
“Sixteen.”
“Nope.”
“Fine. Be that way.” Griffin picked up his spoon and took another mouthful of soup, then wrapped one hand around the bowl, warming his dinner. “So how long are we on standby?”
“All evening.” Basil glanced out the kitchen window. “Things may get dicey with this storm.”

Thanks for the friend request, Darby. I've added your book "Griffin Rising" to my TBR pile. It sounds very intriguing!
Namaste Darby, I'm very happy to be your friend here on goodreads.com. Want to wish you the best in all things. I appreciate your taste in fantasy books.
I hope it won't seem to forward of me to invite you to consider my spiritual allegory, Song of George: Portrait of an Unlikely Holy Man. It definitely has certain elements of fantasy, though it is inspired by my own experiences. A recent reviewer noted the surreal quality of my character, George.
In any case, I'm adding Griffin rising, but you should know, I'm a relatively slow reader and backed up a bit. Truly, jesse
Thanks for accepting my friend request, Darby. It's greatly appreciated. If you love a good mystery, and you have either a Kindle, Nook or iBooks, I encourage you to try a sample of my first novel. It's called FORBIDDEN STEPS and it's getting raves and 5 stars across the board. Check out what folks are saying by clicking on the link below, then scroll downward. http://www.craftweb.org/web/ed/book.html
