About this author

I am a teacher and writer living in British Columbia. I host open mic at my local coffee shop and enjoy entering poetry contests. I have worked with a Young Adult population for most of my career and I wanted to help readers find books to enjoy that were both at a level they could manage and that shared interesting and pertinent themes. The Orca Currents and Soundings Series is perfect for this YA audience and I feel privileged to have 'Benched' and 'Living Rough' published by them. I hope my next three endeavours are available soon!

The words always flow best when I can't capture them! I also find immersing myself in the setting I have created, be it a park or a coffee shop, or a school, can also help. I may overhear a conversation that inspires me or I may chat with people and they say something that helps me figure out what my character needs. Being away from the words works wonders for me!(less)

Now that I am published, I would say the next best thing is having a reader tell me my book is the first novel they ever finished (my books are geared towards reluctant readers). There is nothing so powerful as having a young person find their way into the joy of reading by completing a book you have written. (less)

I met Susan (online) while participating in the first Coffee Shop Author Contest, where I finished a book of poetry I now call, “Poetry from the Pelican”. It was on that site I was able to post about my YA novels getting published. I love the circle of writing – where connections come around again and again! I am so lucky to be part of this wonderful species we call ‘writers’!
