MARY SHARRATT is an American writer living in Lancashire, England. Her inspiration for DAUGHTERS OF THE WITCHING HILL arose directly from the wild, brooding landscape: the true story of the Pendle witches unfolded almost literally in her backyard. The award-winning author of the acclaimed
novels SUMMIT AVENUE, THE REAL MINERVA, and THE VANISHING POINT, Sharratt is also the coeditor of the subversive fiction anthology BITCH LIT, a celebration of female antiheroes, strong women who break all the rules.





August 2012 commemorates the 400th Anniversary of the Pendle Witch Trials in which nine people from the Pendle region in Lancashire, England were hanged as witches based on the testimony of a nine-year-old girl.
