Born in Lancashire, I've been a teacher, bookseller and in a mad moment, a smallholder on the freezing fells of the Lake District where I tried my hand at the ‘good life’, kept sheep and hens, various orphaned cats and dogs, built drystone walls, planted a small wood and even learned how to make jam. I have now given up my thermals to build a house in an olive grove in Spain, where I produce my own olive oil and sit in the sun. I have now published 39 novels including many bestselling family sagas and historical novels.

Perhaps that is the reason I also like writing about war, poverty and difficult times, and how we women cope. Delighted to hear you enjoyed it, and hope you like some of my others too. There are plenty to choose from. Best wishes, Freda(less)
Freda Lightfoot Congratulations! It will be posted tomorrow from Spain where we live in the winter, so hopefully it will be with you in time. All the best, Freda

The inspiration for my latest historical romance, Witchchild, came from the myths and legends of Robin-the-Devil, a Major Robert Philipson who was reputed to have ridden down the aisle of Kendal Parish Church seeking his enemy, Colonel Briggs. The pair had been in conflict for some time, and Briggs laid siege to Robin’s island home and even sacked his family church at Windermere during the civi... Read more of this blog post »

Description: Marguerite de Valois is the most beautiful woman in the French Court, and the subject of great scandal and intrigue. Margot loves Henri of Guise but is married off to the Huguenot Henry of Navarre. By this means her mother Catherine de Medici hopes to bring peace to the realm.  But within days of the wedding the streets of Paris are awash with blood in the Massacre of Saint Bartholomew. Not only is her new husband’s life in danger, but her own too as her mother and brother hold them hostage in the Louvre. Can they ever hope to escape and keep their heads? In a court rife with murder, political intrigue, debauchery, jealousy and the hunger for power, it will not be an easy task.
