About this author

Carye Bye is the local museum expert in Portland, Oregon. She loves her adopted hometown of Portland. (She's originally from Minnesota!) and when she's not exploring her favorite city by bicycle or foot, leading bicycle tours, or curating her Bathtub Art Museum, she makes a living printing original woodcut and letterpress prints in her very own garage-studio "The Bat Cave" under the name Red Bat Press. She also enjoys bike-camping, clipping articles out of the paper, drinking tea, and borrowing the neighbors' cats.

This month the Oregonian reviewed Hidden Portland: Museums in the Sunday Book section. Here's the link: http://www.oregonlive.com/books/index...

Harriet has done it again! What a great book! An Enthusiastic 5 stars! I had it by my nightstand table and read 2-3 entries a day. Out of all the museums covered, I think I've only been to 1-2. Impressively curated and enjoyed all the stories, good b...more
Hidden Treasures by Harriet Baskas
" An oddball collection of strange, gross, stealable, radioactive or controversial items that museums don't exhibit. The book grew out of a NPR project & it's very cool in that "stay in your car til the end of the story" way. It's intriguing hea... " Read more of this review »
Hidden Treasures by Harriet Baskas
" I really enjoyed reading this book about the stories of the unseen treasures of museums. My favorite items: the 618 boxes of Andy Warhol's stuff and the lifelike statue of "Linda." A fun and quirky read for history lovers. "
Hidden Treasures by Harriet Baskas
" I so loved this book! I'm really into quirky offbeat factoids, so I knew that I'd love this even before I read it. I also think that my mom and my aunt would really like this book. It's pretty short, but it's chock full of cool stuff that museums... " Read more of this review »

Last year I worked on a illustrated art show called "Favorite Candy" and I drew portraits of friends posing with their Favorite Candy. It was interesting to learn the psychology behind why certain candy is loved most. And that most people can pick a...more

First off, I don't read a lot of fiction and I've never read any Dave Eggers. But I have been obsessed with circles this year, so when I saw this book reviewed in the paper, and later found on the Lucky Day shelf at the library, I wanted to read it.

I liked this book overall -- I think they chose a poor title, as only maybe a third of the stories are written about the paranormal and ghost sightings, which I'm glad of since I'm not as into that as a good story about something a little weird or cu...more

This book Delivered! Alyce's adventure becomes our adventure. I love a good balanced travelogue, and one with heart, and the ability to laugh at one's self. I've known Alyce via the Museum network in Portland and knew of her book about her wild ride...more
