solarpunk_2700Hello, readers! I know it’s been a very long time, but I promise it was worth the wait. I’m very pleased to announce the release of Elf Saga, Book 4: Solarpunk. The ebook is currently available on Amazon and Smashwords, and the paperback is on Amazon too.

What’s it about? Here’s the blurb:

This is still not your typical epic fantasy! When Zaya and her friends learn that the world is dying, they set out to play hero just like their ancestors did. But whole countries lie in ruins, armies of ref...

solarpunk_2700So, my patient readers, it is time. I have finished Elf Saga: Solarpunk, and it will be in your ereaders any minute now. So first, what’s up with that title? What’s “solarpunk”?

Well, it’s a fancy new genre in the vein of Steampunk and Cyberpunk, but with a few key differences. First, the style is very Art Nouveau, very stained glass and airy and light, but also homemade and recycled and natural.

Also, rather than the dystopian outlook of cyberpunk, solarpunk is utopian, imagining futures wh...

I’ve been quiet for a while now, but that’s only because I’ve been so darn busy. If you’re looking for Elf Saga 4, I’m afraid you’re going to have to wait a little bit longer. I’m only halfway done with it. But in the meantime, I’d like to present…

A new concept in the #1 bestselling Future Chronicles anthology series in speculative fiction… where authors craft stories within a shared universe, or an already-existing world.
In the first of this continuing line, we ex...

We tell some funnystories in America about success. We talk about how Bill Gates dropped out of college and became a billionaire. We talk about how JK Rowling was a homeless single mom and became a billionaire. We love success stories. We love rags-to-riches stories.

And yet, we haven’t arrangedour society to promote that at all, have we? We’re all about school and testsand traditional careers paths. But if that’s what we’re supposed to be, then why don’t we ever hear the inspiring anecdote o...

This “Word Wars” series is a new thing I’m trying out. It’s hard to say out loud (Word Wars), but just rollwith it for a minute. Okay? Let’s go.

Challenge #1: Men and Women

Stop using the words “guys” and “males” and only use the word “men“. Andstop using the words “girls” and “females” and only use the word “women“. (When referring to adults, of course.)

Where? In all things. Tweets, posts, emails, texting, comments, whatever. And perhaps most importantly, in your professional writing. Men a...

Part One: Path of the Gunslinger

Episode 1

The elf in the white hat and long gray duster is waiting for me at the side of the trail, and in a way I’ve been waiting for him as well because it’s been a whole week since anyone’s tried to kill me. And that’s got to be a record.

“Hey you, stop right there. Yeah, I know you,” he calls out. “Winona Ocalla Marev, the girl with the golden gun. Lozen’s legacy, the hero of the Union. The great peacemaker.” The stranger s...

December 19, 2015

Okay, so, it’s been a whole day and now I need to cave in to my writer’s nature and offer how I would have written Episode VII, which no one asked for and no one wants to see. If you haven’t seen The Force Awakens, then you might want to skip this because it contains vague spoilers for the movie.

Rey is a gas miner on Bespin, using her latent Force powers to find the best gas and survive in her crappy/cool ship, the Rustbucket. One day, her instincts lead her to find the Skywalker lightsabe...

December 18, 2015

So I went out to see Star Wars on opening day, because STAR WARS, and I laughed (literally) and I cried (literally), and here are my spoiler-lacedthoughts. Spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned… Spoilers!

What I liked:

Rey, Finn, and Poe were outstanding. They were real and funny and they were so excited to be doing whatever they were doing. I want to spend all of my time with them! Poe’s opening scenes were funny and badass, Finn brought fantastic energy and a sort of everyman perspective, and...

August 27, 2015

So you really loved the DC animated superhero shows like Young Justice and you’re hungry for more? Then I have some good news. VIXEN is here!

The CW is launching a new animated mini-series in the same TV universe as their popular live-action series Arrow and Flash featuring the heroine Vixen. And who is she? Vixen is a supermodel by day and crimefighter by night who uses a magic necklace to harness the powers of wild animals, like the strength of an elephant or the speed of a cheetah.

You ca...
