Melissa McPhail is a classically trained pianist, violinist and composer, a Vinyasa yoga instructor, and an avid fantasy reader. A long-time student of philosophy, she is passionate about the fantasy genre because of its inherent philosophical explorations. Melissa loves sailing, skiing and discussing books and philosophy—not necessarily in that order.

The first two novels in Melissa's fantasy series A Pattern of Shadow and Light were finalists in ForeWord Magazine's Book of the Year contest. The third book in the series, Paths of Alir, received the IndieFab Silver Medal for Fantasy Book of the Year.

An Atlanta, Georgia native, Melissa now lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, their twin daughters and three very large cats.

This is going to be a longer book than the previous three in order to move forward all of the many extant threads in the story.

In addition to continuing the threads of Tanis, Nadia, Ean, Trell, Alyneri, Carian, and Franco, we'll finally get back to the Queen of Dannym and her fight against the Duke of Morwyk, and also regroup with Gydryn val Lorian and his scattered troops.(less)

Hi Matthew,

I'm so glad you're enjoying the series so far. Kingdom Blades will be released for Audible in early 2017. I'm hearing the end of February as the tentative date right now. When I know something definitive, I'll post to my blog.

Best wishes for a happy holiday,

Once upon a time I had a dream, a dream of a book, a book to complete a fantasy series, a fantasy series to please fantasy readers, reading the completed book of this series from this erstwhile dream.

If this sounds oddly wistful, it’s rather a reflection of my state of mind about A Pattern of Shadow & Light Book Five. You see, I’m trying to make it the final book in the series, and that’s...

Hi Louise, Thank you so much. That's very kind of you to say. I'd call myself a visual writer, but I'm a philosopher at heart, and my novels reflect both of these traits.

Best wishes to you!

It is in progress but I don't have an exact release date yet. I'm pushing for the end of the year. The series will have five books.

Do let me know if you decide to start - I really enjoy getting feedback from readers.

Best wishes,
