About this author

Celia Hayes was brought up in an eccentric, baby-boom family, and earned a degree in English before a thirst for adventure led her to enlist in the USAF. She trained as a radio/television broadcaster, and served in a wide assortment of duties. Her Texas frontier adventure, the "Adelsverein Trilogy" - the story of the German colonies in the Texas Hill Country - is available on Amazon, in local Texas bookstores and in many local libraries. "Daughter of Texas" and "Deep in the Heart" follow the life of an woman pioneer in the early days of Texas, and the eventful years of the Republic of Texas. Her next book, "The Quivera Trail" will follow the adventures of an English lady who marries a Texas cattleman in 1876 and follows him to the still-res...more

Daughter of Texas (Literature & Fiction)
0 chapters   —   updated Mar 09, 2011 03:43PM
Description: Before the cattle drives and before the Alamo. Before the legends were born; she was there and she saw it all! On the day that she was twelve years old, Margaret Becker came to Texas with her parents and her younger brothers. The witch-woman looked at her hands and foretold her future; two husbands, a large house, many friends, joy, sorrow and love. The witch woman would not say what she saw for Margaret's younger brothers, Rudi and Carl – for Texas was a Mexican colony. Before the Becker children were full-grown, the war for Texas independence would come upon them all and show no mercy. During her life, she would observe and participate in great events. She would meet and pass her own judgment on great men and lesser men as well; a loyal friend, able political hostess ... and at the end, a survivor and witness. But in all of her life, there would be only one man who would ever hold — and break — her heart!
Adelsverein - The Sowing (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated Jul 10, 2010 01:11PM
Description: Loyal to the Union, adamant in their belief that slavery was wrong … Could they survive a brutal war in the dark heart of the Confederacy? Adelsverein: The Sowing is Volume 2 of the Adelsverein Trilogy, following the fortunes of German settlers who came to Texas seeking land and political freedom in the 19th century. “Vati” Steinmetz and his children have prospered. His older daughter Magda has married Carl Becker, born him children and helped him build a happy life as a rancher in the beautiful valley of the Guadalupe River. Vati’s son-in-law Hansi Richter prospers as a farmer, and his son Johann has returned from years of study in Germany to become a doctor. But his beautiful adopted daughter Rosalie is in love … with a man who intends to serve in the Confederate Army! Ideals, friendship and cruel circumstance clash with the coming of civil war to the Hill Countrym bringing Carl Becker and Hansi Richter into mortal danger from the ‘hanging band’ – a pro-Confederate lynch mob, while Johann and his twin brother Friedrich are drawn into fighting on opposite sides. Adelsverein: The Sowing – Continues the epic story of how one family became American, through the brutal tragedy of the Civil War!
Adelsverein - The Harvesting (Select)
1 chapters   —   updated Jul 10, 2010 01:08PM
Description: A war ends … And another begins. The Confederacy lies in ruins. Those who survived struggle to rebuild homes and lives. Adelsverein: The Harvesting brings the saga of the Becker and Richter families in the Texas Hill Country to a triumphant conclusion in this final volume of the Adelsverein Trilogy. The war is over and the soldiers return home, to take up the old lifes … if they can. The end of the Civil War has left the South broken and defeated. Too many young men are dead, too many families destroyed, homes left wrecked and desolate. And yet there is hope in the ashes, for Hansi Richter and his daughter Anna, for the widowed Magda Becker, her son Dolph and his cousin Peter Vining—all who have the strength, the heart and the courage to begin building their lives again … and to dare to venture the first steps on a new path.. A path of silver and gold, a bold new adventure into the wilderness … yet the malice of an old enemy still haunts Dolph Becker, and the constant terror of raids by Comanche Indians may yet destroy Hansi Richter’s family, and the sanity of his wife. Adelsverein: The Harvesting – It’s the story of a family, building a life, a future … and building America..
To Truckee's Trail (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated Jul 10, 2010 12:50PM
Description: The greatest adventure never told ... until now! In the year of 1844, a party of fifty men, women and children set out for California. They walked two thousand miles, across trackless plain and desert, fording rivers and climbing mountains. They found a new trail through the wilderness, hoisted their wagons up a sheer cliff, were caught by the winter snows and faced starvation, with nothing to rely on but their own courage and trust in each other. These are their stories; the doctor-diarist and party co-leader, the old mountain-man who guided them, the feisty woman with her brood of children who means to rejoin her husband in California, the taciturn wagon master… all inexorably drawn to Truckee’s Trail!
