About this author

A work of speculative fiction, Quick Fall of Light is my first published novel, over the last few months becoming a multiple award winner; now, specifically, a "Silver" Award winner with ForeWord Reviews Book of the Year 2010 (Science Fiction). Intrigued, no obsessed, by the great flu epidemic of 1918, I wrote the novel, in part, because my grandmother survived it when so many died. The subject of a pandemic now being explored in the movie, "Contagion," has heightened public awareness, and the effect may be a preparedness I've hoped for since I wrote Quick Fall.

Want to thank GoodReads and all the readers/writers who recently signed up to receive a copy of Quick Fall of Light or who showed so much interest in the story. I'm opening a blog for comments between us about great reading, comparisons between books, and, of course, subjects that might include questions/answers about vanishing birds (passenger pigeons included), pandemics in front of us and in... read more »

“The reality that someone you love has died is its own tragedy. But it's separate, isn't it, from the way it happened?”
Sherrida Woodley, Quick Fall of Light

“As I get considerably beyond the biblical allotment of three score years and ten, I feel with increasing intensity that I can express my gratitude for still being around on the oxygen-side of the earth's crust only by not standing pat on what I have hitherto known and loved. While oxygen lasts, there are still new things to love, especially if compassion is a form of love.”

Ed Rambeau Thanks for accepting my friend request, Sherrida. You seem like an interesting person, so feel free to tell me more about yourself and perhaps we can grow to become even greater friends. I, myself, am a singer/songwriter/actor who has recently turned author, so perhaps we can share books and ideas in the future.

Regards, and have a great day, Ed

Sherrida Woodley I just might pop in every now and then. I sent for a book from Australia some time back--a book of birds, poetry, I believe. The poet had written of passenger pigeons, a bird I've "brought back from extinction" in a novel, and she sounded as infatuated with them as I am. I wish I could remember her name. . .
