Peter Dawes an author of dark fantasy, native to the Philadelphia, PA area and most known for The Vampire Flynn Series. While primarily a novelist, he has also contributed shorter works to several collections. His serial story, “A Maker and His Child” appears on the BloodTideZine website and short “Lost Highway” has been featured in the Nocturnal Embers anthology, by micro-press Crimson Melodies. He has also contributed to the story cycle Red Phone Box, produced by Ghostwoods Books.

Always working on something new, Peter leaves it up to the reader to decide if it’s by sunlight or candlelight.

It’s been an announcement long since coming and delayed only in the effort to present an amazing story to you guys. For the last two years, I’ve been working on a set of stories I first titledThe Unquiet Dead, which has since received a facelift and a title change while the series of tales have evolved. Today, it brings me great pleasure to announce…

“Sonnet XVII

I do not love you as if you were salt-rose, or topaz,
or the arrow of carnations the fire shoots off.
I love you as certain dark things are to be loved,
in secret, between the shadow and the soul.

I love you as the plant that never blooms
but carries in itself the light of hidden flowers;
thanks to your love a certain solid fragrance,
risen from the earth, lives darkly in my body.

I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where.
I love you straightforwardly, without complexities or pride;
so I love you because I know no other way than this:

where I does not exist, nor you,
so close that your hand on my chest is my hand,
so close that your eyes close as I fall asleep. ”
Pablo Neruda

Eyes of the Seer by Peter W. Dawes
"I was fascinated by the twisting psyche of Peter/Flynn. Whether good or evil, healer or killer, the author managed to put me in the character's head and understand his motivation. I rooted for him no matter what he was doing. The twists in the plo..." Read more of this review »

Idylls of the King and a Selection of Poems by Alfred Tennyson
“Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

“Occasionally, there arises a writing situation where you see an alternative to what you are doing, a mad, wild gamble of a way for handling something, which may leave you looking stupid, ridiculous or brilliant -you just don't know which. You can play it safe there, too, and proceed along the route you'd mapped out for yourself. Or you can trust your personal demon who delivered that crazy idea in the first place.
Trust your demon.”
