About this author

V.S. has been told that she has ink in her veins. The daughter—and granddaughter—of writers, from her first, floundering attempt at a novel at age 12, V.S. has been writing fiction. Every day, for the sheer joy of it. Although she has a full-time job, a family, a mortgage, there is always something to edit, to create, and she wouldn’t have it any other way.
All aspects of her life, however, have one common thread: God.
She wouldn’t have that any other way, either.
Her first published work, SAND FOR DREAMS, is now available.

Sand for Dreams (Literature & Fiction)
1 chapters   —   updated Feb 17, 2011 07:47am
Description: Caine Garnette is a Strategic Service officer accepting of his own fate. Jaded by his past, he embarks on a quest to save a small child from destruction, only to find his own salvation deep in the sandy heart of Arabia. He also finds an Englishwoman stolen from the streets of Jerusalem. Although she has lost her spectacles on the slave market, Virgilia Wessex soon discovers that the man of her dreams is right before her eyes. But the disguised American known as Caine Ali Hakira is anything but the charming prince she had been expecting. Secretive, unfriendly and haunted by an irreconcilable tragedy, Caine further acquaints her with the reality of the world in which she has been thrown. In turn, she introduces him to the possibilities of wishes made on stars... and to the same God he’d abandoned as a boy. Spanning post-World War One England, America, and Africa, they encounter sandstorms, dangerous revolutionaries, and charming locals. Imprisonment, risk and friendship. Aching loss and glorious redemption. The course of this man and this woman will ultimately merge into the same: a life of forgiveness, of love… and of realized dreams.

“I've crossed a world of sand and tears in search of you.”
V.S. Carnes, Sand for Dreams

“She was an extension of his dreams. A sprinkling of magic dust, of unfeasible wishes, on his stable existence. The one thing-the one bright, marvelous thing-he wanted more than the world, but didn't deserve. However much he was tortured for her sake, however much blood he had spilled to protect her, the bruises to his body and the thrashings to his sanity, it would never be enough to make a wretch like him worthy of such a miracle.”
V.S. Carnes, Sand for Dreams

“And what was to become of what he had taken from her? He had dashed her heart to the ground and danced on it with combat boots. Did he sit in that seditious palace day after day and not even bother to scrape it off of his soles with a passing thought of her?”
V.S. Carnes

“I learned...that inspiration does not come like a bolt, nor is it kinetic, energetic striving, but it comes into us slowly and quietly and all the time, though we must regularly and every day give it a little chance to start flowing, prime it with a little solitude and idleness.”
Brenda Ueland

“The claws of Truth were painful. The lies tore away like scabs, and John bled there for hours, stifling his cries of pain in the sleeve of his overcoat - the overcoat he'd received from his father.”
Frank Peretti

“Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss

“Staying alive is nice, but you can’t do that forever. It’s how you live the life you have while you have it.”
Frank Peretti, Monster

“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
Albert Einstein

Jesse Hanson Thank you very much for including me on your friends list, V.S. Sand for Dreams looks very interesting. I really hope I can get around to reading it at some point.
If it's not too forward, I'd also like to ask you to consider my spiritual allegory, Song of George: Portrait of an Unlikely Holy Man for your list--certainly fictional, but very much inspired by my personal experiences.
Namaste and best wishes to you, Truly, jesse
