About this author

D.B. Jackson, author of historical fantasy

D.B. Jackson has been writing fantasy and science fiction under a different pen name for over fifteen years. He has published novels, short stories, and media tie-ins in more than a dozen languages. He also has a Ph.D. in American History, and now, for the first time in his career, he is combining his love of fantasy with his passion for history. His first historical fantasy, Thieftaker, will be published by Tor Books in 2012. His short story, "The Tavern Fire," appears in After Hours: Tales from the Ur-Bar, edited by Joshua Palmatier and Patricia Bray, and published by DAW in March 2011.

It’s called “The Witch of Dedham,” and it is available from this web page in two ways. You can download it in .pdf format and read it the old fashioned way. I’d recommend that for those of you with slow internet connections. Or you can also download an MP3 file of me d...

I love Kate Elliott's work (and in the interests of transparency I should also add that Kate is a good friend), so it's not so surprising that I loved this book. I have to say, though, that I think this may be my favorite of all the books of hers tha...more

One of those books I should have read years ago and just . . . well, didn't. Finally read it and I have to admit that I loved it. Yes, it's incredibly melodramatic. Yes, Heathcliff is almost too cruel to be believed. Yes, there were times when I want...more

I used Archer's book extensively in my research of the second THIEFTAKER book, and have been consulting it again as I research and plot out book three in the series. The book is well-researched, soundly reasoned, clearly written, and at times quite e...more
