About this author

Suzanne Morrison first memoir, Yoga Bitch: One woman's quest to conquer skepticism, cynicism, and cigarettes on the path to enlightenment, will be published in the United States by Three Rivers Press in August of 2011 and in Germany, the Netherlands, Israel and Russia in 2011-12. Yoga Bitch was named a must-read by the Los Angeles Times, and early reviews of Yoga Bitch have raved that it “brings the higher path down to earth with refreshing honesty” (Kirkus) and called it “honest, thoughtful, and hilarious” (Publishers Weekly). Yoga Bitch had its start as a long-running one-woman show of the same title, which played in New York, London, across the country and around the world. A 2009 and 2010 recipient of 4Culture and Artist Trust grants fo...more

Yoga Bitch by Suzanne Morrison
" Funny, interesting, and very genuine.

What I liked best is that there's no grand transformation in the author -- just a very real experience, told in a very real voice. Which makes Yoga Bitch as approachable as it is entertaining. I seriously laug... "

I stayed up all night in order to finish this beautiful book. It's such a huge accomplishment for a debut; it's gorgeously written, yet feels as if the writer is sitting next to you telling you her tale. It's told in a non-linear, non-chronological s...more

I absolutely loved this book; it was my favorite read all year. I'm buying it for all my musician friends for Christmas, but also for my friends who love an engrossing, beautifully told story. Gallaway's writing is gorgeous, rich with allusion, big-h...more

“GOD. Sometimes I think there might be a god out there, and that every once in a while he tunes in to see what we're up to, and have a good laugh at how we like to dress him up in various costume. Robes, thorny crowns, yarmulkes and curls, saris and butt-hugging yoga pants. Male, female, a genderless reincarnation factory; a Mother Earth or a withholding Father Christmas. I would think it would amuse the hell out of him. That we're all idolaters, worshiping figments of our own creation who bear no resemblance to him.
Maybe he's sitting in some alternate dimension somewhere, saying, 'Shit, I didn't even create the world! I was just cooking my dinner, not paying attention to the heat, and suddenly here was this big band and a few hours later, a bunch of dinosaurs...”
