Freelance writer, English instructor, poker player, biker, and roustabout, Travis Heermann is the author of two published novels, a metric ton of role-playing game work both in print and online, and has sold short fiction pieces to several anthologies and magazines. He taught English in Japan for three years, where he stood out like a space alien with his head on fire. He now lives in a much larger world than before, and has two long-cherished dreams: a NYT bestseller and a seat in the World Series of Poker.

Mainly, writers must write. Period. You show up with your butt in the chair, every day. Sometimes what comes out is good, sometimes its not. But you're still making progress, even if you have to go back and edit later.
Everybody has good days, where everything comes together, and bad days, where nothing does. Worrying about writer's block gives it too much power over you.(less)

One of the cool things about being a writer is that sometimes other authors let me play in their sandbox. Aaron Michael Ritchey, author of the Juniper Wars series, a Young Adult story about a family of teenage sisters on a post-apocalyptic cattle-drive, invited me to contribute a story to his world and this was the result.

I wouldn’t call this story YA (it’s more like The Hateful Eight meets Th...
