Not only am I teaching kids at Writopia Lab (sign up now for summer at writopialab.org), I'll be teaching two memoir-writing workshops to adults this fall at The Writer's Center in Bethesda, MD. If you're in the DC area, please come join me in September and write yourself a memoir! One class will focus on completing a manuscript in eight weeks, while the other will be exclusively for those who want to write about illness. Check out writer.org for more info about this great organization, and stay tuned for more details later in the summer! Happy writing!

I was just hired as a writing teacher for Writopia Lab here in my new home of Washington, DC. I'm so thrilled to be teaching kids ages 8-18. If your child or a child you know wants to take a class with a published author (not necessarily me) this summer, please check out writopialab.org. There are also branches in NYC and LA. It's an amazing organization that provides individualized attention to the work of each child. Although we do writing exercises as a class, everyone gets to work on an individual project of his or her choice -- a short story, a play, or a poem.
I'm interviewing tomorrow to teach memoir writing to adults as well. It's another great organization, but I obviously can't say anything about it yet. I'll keep you posted!
And in the meantime, I'm still available to speak about BPD and suicide prevention as a member of the Active Minds speakers' bureau. Combining a talk with a writing workshop is possible; contact me or check out activeminds.org for more details.
Keep writing, keep fighting. No matter how impossible it seems, you can have a life worth living.

Please join me at WORD Bookstore in Brooklyn for my paperback release party March 7 at 7 pm! I'm very excited for the "Ladies with Ink" panel discussion, featuring Kitty Jo Sainte-Marie and Sue Jeiven of East River Tattoo. Come get your (signed!) copy of my beautiful new paperback, the cover of which kind of makes me swoon.
And if you can't make it to the release party, please tune in to Jane Radio March 5. I'll be in the studio with Jane Pratt, which is of course very exciting. I'll post the exact time here as soon as I know.
Much love, Strange Girls! xox

I'm excited to show you all the first post in my new Being Patient blog for Psychology Today:
http://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/b...
Upcoming posts will include a breakdown of each of the four modules of DBT and a comparison of paranoia in BPD vs. schizophrenia. I also plan to profile different inpatient DBT programs. If you know someone with BPD and there's something I could write that would help you help them (or yourself), please message me!

2011 was an amazing year, and it's largely because of you. THANK YOU for the Goodreads reviews, for coming out to readings, and for sending me emails and Facebook messages telling me what Loud in the House of Myself meant to you. I'm holed up at a friend's place in Washington, DC, editing another friend's book and having a glass of champagne with my cats (and my friend) in my pajamas. Being able to do this and not feel lame about it is one of the great joys of being 40. (As my dear friend Katie said, "The heavens rejoice when a borderline turns 40.")
2012 is all about writing another book. I'm quite excited about it and hope that, eventually, you will be too!
All my love,
SP
