About this author

Margaret Jean (Peggy) Langstaff has written more than twenty books, both under her own name and as a ghostwriter for others, and countless feature articles and book reviews for prominent national periodicals, such as the L.A. Times, Publishers Weekly, BookPage, and the L.A. Times Book Review and Business Page. She is a member of the National Book Critics Circle and former board member of the Book Industry Study Group.

Clarification (or Obfuscation?) of the above by the Author:

"I should point out, in all fairness and consideration to my new readers, that my nickname is ***"Peggy"*** and for many many years I have confused my life and interested observers by writing erratically under both names. To further complicate things, when I discovered...more

Tamara Rose Blodgett Hi Margaret~! Thanks for your friendship =D

Margaret Langstaff I thought I'd just post this recent msg to a new friend (in response to his question) to see what other authors and readers think is "appropriate," tasteful author self-promotion. Welcome any comments:

"Hey, Tony, new friend! Sure, I promote my books, but I am sensitive to many readers' justifiable, I think, resentment of authors using every opportunity, even when they're purportedly discussing other people's books, to crow about their own. It's a turn-off, back-fires on the self-promoting author and is just bad manners IMHO. I just try to keep a lid on it and not be obnoxious, know what I mean? Yep, I do links and titles in some signatures, but I make an effort to be scrupulous about not interjecting "me" into every conversation that comes up. Maybe I am too sensitive about this. I look at my book sales and wonder some days. But then they'll trend up again because someone has read one or more and is spreading the good word by word-of-mouth (much more effective and convincing than any spiel I could muster!).

"
