Robert Stadnik's Blog

March 8, 2016

It's been a couple of years since I've been on this site. The last two years found me busy with work, taking care of personal matters, a new relationship. These things had pushed my writing to the sidelines for quite some time.

In the last couple of months I re-evaluated my goals as a writer. Although I had previously said I wouldn't be writing new adventures of the starship PHOENIX, I've found myself drawn back more and more to those characters. So much so that I've been working on a new exodus series novel to document some of the first adventures the crew had in their initial exploration of space away from the alliance.

With the new novel underway, I've also been revisiting the original four exodus novels. A couple weeks ago I published the revised Exodus Of The Phoenix, refining my writing and making some minor changes to it. I also decided to hire out artists to do new book covers and Exodus Of The Phoenix is the first novel to receive its new cover. This new cover is important as it finally gives readers a visual look of the starship PHOENIX. I'll be following it up with some marketing campaigns, again hiring out experts to do the promotions for me.

My intention here is to reboot my writing career, but I don't want to let the novels I've already written sit in their current forms. I've developed my writing skills and want to apply them to improving the novels already out there as I work on my new novel.

In the next couple of weeks I'll be putting out the new book cover for the second exodus novel, Phoenix Among The Stars. I'm excited about what I have planned for my existing books as well as the new ones about the PHOENIX I'm writing about.

February 27, 2014

As of five minutes ago I've officially finished with The Io Effect. A year and a half of work finally at an end.

Now I just have to package the novel and prep it for publication. I'll be announcing when the novel goes up on sale at amazon, hopefully in the next few days.

January 13, 2014

Wow, I didn't realize it's been so long since I posted an update. The second half of the year has been extremely busy, and so many things have gone on in my life...

Anyways, over the weekend I finally completed the companion novel to the exodus series, The Io Effect. I've printed off copies of it and will be sending it to a few individuals who'll be proofreading it for me. I initially had a target date of February 2014 to publish the book, but it looks like March will be a more realistic date.

Although this novel takes place in the exodus series, I've come to treat it as a legacy novel, representing as how we view our pasts. More so this novel contains so many components of people who are important to me in my life. This past year I've learned a lot about dealing with losing those I care about, and I guess this novel's a representation of those feelings. Even last week I had some friends suffer a terrible loss and who they lost has become a part of this novel. I guess it's my way of ensuring this person, and the others I've lost, will live on.

Hey all!

It's been a number of months since I posted anything here, but I've gotten some emails from readers asking what's going on, so I'm here to provide you all with an update.

I've been working on the newest novel in the exodus universe. If I haven't mentioned it before, this story takes place 100 years from the original four book storyline. It's a standalone book, but it a nice compliment to the exodus series. Same starship, different characters....mostly :)

Anyhow, I completed the draft back in June and since then I've been working on revising the book. I'm shooting to release the book in the first quarter of 2014. I've lined up some individuals who'll read the book and do edits for me. I'm taking my time here, no rush. A lot of it has to do with keeping all the established cannon from the exodus books straight in this new book.

So that's where I'm at. I'm spending several days a week working on the book, and it will come out definitely. Depending how it's received will dictate if I continue writing the exodus universe. There's a ton of stories there.

March 9, 2013

Wow, I can't believe it's March already. This year is already flying by. I just got back from a three week stint in Hawaii, and I managed to crank out quite a bit on the draft of the new exodus book.

With that said, I won't be releasing the next exodus novel until sometime next year. There are several reasons behind this, none of which I'll go into here. But this new series in the exodus universe won't be a series at all, rather just a single novel. Even though this new book has new characters, for me it make sense to tell the whole story in one book, rather than break it up into multiple novels.

As the year progresses I'll post updates how the novel is coming along. At this point I have about 30,000 words written out.

December 30, 2012

Despite moving into my new place, I managed to set some time aside to writing. I've written 10,000 words on the new novel...oh, and by the way, the novel I'm working on is the next series in the exodus universe.

Happy New Year's Everyone!!!

November 20, 2012

First, I want to thank all of you who have read Fury Of The Phoenix. The feedback has been tremendous and I never expected the volume of responses I've been receiving.

I planned on taking the rest of the year off and resuming my writing at the start of 2013. But here I've been writing the second Heroes series like crazy; I'm already halfway through the first draft. So much for the best laid plans.

Unlike the exodus series, I have no outline for the Heroes series. I simply have been writing from the hip, the story coming up as I write. As I've been working on it, I'm realizing that this second book will be the final one in the Heroes series. Although these characters were the first ones I've ever created, I'm realizing the story is having a finality that will occur much sooner than the exodus series.

It was always my goal to begin writing the urban fantasy story I already outlined after the Heroes & Consequences series was completed. But I'll be honest, the exodus series is beckoning me back. I've been thinking almost nonstop about the second chapter of the starship PHOENIX. Part of me wants to stick with my plan, but damn! The other part wants to ditch the plan and just dive into the next chapter of the PHOENIX's adventure (yes, I do have the outline already drafted for the next story). What's worse (or better, depending on your point of view), I'm coming up with some of the adventures that John Roberts and Julie Olson experience in their years commanding the PHOENIX.

I guess I don't want to get locked down in one universe I created, but I always have an intense attachment to these characters and the worlds I created. I need some feedback from all of you. What should I do? I'm committed to completing the Heroes series, but what do I do after that? Do I go back to the PHOENIX or charge ahead in the urban fantasy story (please don't recommend I do both at the same time. There's only so many hours in a day).
