I was born in a little antiquated medical clinic on Main Street of a small Alabama town, grew up in the backwoods of 1950s rural Alabama, and learned every precious thing I know from the mountain folks who made up my family and community, and the animals who were our constant companions. I began writing at an early age and can't stop.

Currently, I'm hard at work on Book Two, The Witches of Moonlight Ridge, the sequel to Sweet Music on Moonlight Ridge. I had hoped to have it finished much earlier, but now I'm so glad I took my time. The story would never have been what it is now if I had rushed. Hope to have it done in this lifetime. My publisher will be relieved!

I think I learned this from a very smart and successful person a long time ago, but I have forgotten who it was! If I come to a point in the story or manuscript where I'm stuck and can't seem to proceed, I write something like "So they all climbed up a tree and jumped from the highest limb." Or, "Then a UFO appeared in the sky and they all ran around trying to find a place to hide." Somehow, that never fails to launch me back into a writing mode, and after getting things moving along again, I go back and delete the nonsense ... or keep it if it seems to fit into the story!(less)

My poetry and short stories and my book, Sweet Music on Moonlight Ridge, evoke an emotional response from the reader, and create a common ground for communication and sharing. I love the feedback I get from readers.(less)

Last night, as so often happens, Robert Redford was in my dream! His visits are always such a delight. Last night I dreamed that we were at a street fair, and we stopped so that Bob (Robert Redford) could give a woman his autograph.
In the process, somehow he managed to deface a stone marker, and a mob of angry peoplebegan to chase us.

While Bob got clean away, I inadvertently became trapped i... Read more of this blog post »

Amazing book! Fabulous book! Wish I could give it more than 5 stars; it deserves several more. It's like " A Confederacy of Dunces" meets "Jitterbug Perfume" meets "The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian." Hilarious and touching and magical ...more
