About this author

Laura Anderson Kurk is one of those lucky souls who gets to live in a college town. In fact, it’s her college town—College Station, Texas, where she drove in under cover of darkness when she was way too young and proceeded to set the place on fire. (Actually, she stayed in the library stacks for the majority of her tenure as a student at Texas A&M University, but in her imagination, she was stirring things up.) She majored in English for the love of stories, and due to a massive crush on F. Scott Fitzgerald. She continued on to receive an advanced degree in literature. She writes contemporary books for young adults, a genre that gives her the freedom to be honest. Her debut novel Glass Girl is an unconventional and bittersweet love stor...more

First, this won't be a book for everyone. It's a slow-burn kind of book that you have to hang in there with like you're getting to know a new friend or family member. If you're not in love with character-driven stories, you might not give this one th...more

Perfect Glass by Laura Anderson Kurk
" Perfect Glass isn’t a book you just read. It is a book you absorb and that absorbs you. You become immersed and invested in the story and the words and the characters. You’ll be conflicted between wanting to fly through the chapters to see how the... "

" Wow. Just, Wow. That's all I can come up with to say. I've typed, deleted, and re-typed something in this box at least 3 times now. Nothing that I've written seems adequate enough to express how deeply I feel about this book. I was touched. I was... "

" What I Loved

I almost never use the bookmark feature on my Kindle, but I couldn't help but make a note of all the times Stephanie Morrill's Ellie Sweet made me groan or grin. This one made me laugh out loud.

“Here’s what I learned about life when we were going through that. We’re all human and mortal. We’re all going to suffer and die. But it’s how we are with each other during those times that proves God’s here with us.” He turned his hand over in mine and entwined our fingers. “He comes in through people. People who love us anyway. They jump right into the chaos with us and try to help us make sense of it. That’s what mercy is…it’s choosing to help, or forgive, or love even when it goes against all logic.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“Then let me be your mercy,” he said. “I’ll never be able to give you smart answers about why we suffer, but I can come into your world and try to be some kind of help to you.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“1. All glass will break.
2. I am made of glass.
3. Therefore, I will break.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“Wyatt told me once that if tenderness were a disease, I’d be terminal.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“I meant that the hatred of that July day in Nashville was alive and well on that horrible day in Pittsburgh. People hate others so they strike like snakes. It’s all connected—we’re all connected, bumping around into each other, some of us good, some bad, most a mixture. Every thought acted upon has consequences. Every one.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“He’d had to fold his long legs into his desk. His boots had seen better days, and his jeans unraveled in a curiously irresistible way at the bottom. He didn’t look like anyone I’d ever seen before. He reminded me of an actor in an old Western—Rock Hudson in Giant—all dark intensity.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“He leaned toward me and said his name like he was sharing a secret and it made me think he probably kept a lot of secrets. His smile was sweet and his teeth the tiniest bit crooked.”
Laura Anderson Kurk, Glass Girl

“Grayson noticed me next to the lockers. He pointed at me then held his arms out magnanimously. “You’re welcome, new girl,” he said. “I just saved you from having to find a nice way to say no to the leg dragger.”
