Leeanne Meadows Ladin has been writing and riding all her life. She first learned how to ride at the age of seven on her grandparents' farm in southwest Virginia, racing pinto ponies on red clay fields by the Blackwater River with her cousins. When she wasn't riding horses, she was reading about them: Misty of Chincoteague, the Black Stallion, Black Beauty, Blaze, Smoky and many more. Or she was watching them on TV: Trigger, Fury, Champion, Silver and Zorro's Tornado. In 1973, she sat screaming in front of the TV as Secretariat won the Belmont by 31 lengths.

Fulfilling a childhood dream, Leeanne later had her own horse farm, where she enjoyed trail riding with her Tennessee Walking Horses. She started her own business, Free Rein Writing, on
