Jane Moody was the director of the University of York's Humanities Research Centre. She was a pioneering scholar of 18th- and 19th-century British theatre and a passionate advocate for the humanities, both inside and outside the university. She joined the Department of English and Related Literature at York in 1997 and was appointed to a personal chair in 2004.
