| This book is not like anything I've ever read. I'm not sure how to explain it, but I'm going to try. On the surface, it seems like a standard, well-written thriller: father worried about his son falling in love with a friend of the family's daughter,...more | |

There are some good poems in here, but what really makes this collection stand out is that Valentine has an entire section devoted to Lucy, the earliest known hominid, and those poems have *so* much in them. Here's a sample: Lucy, what you want, that I...more |

“The road whinnies and rears up. The sky gallops.
You are permanent within me in this chaos.
Somewhere deep in my mind you shine forever, without
moving, silent, like the angel awed by death,
or like the insect burying itself
in the rotted heart of a tree.”

“However tortured the rationalizations we prefer, the thirst of one human being for another can be so--humbling--but I preferred to think of it as fate. And then mad desire. Anything but a fortress built on the back of a whim...How much easier to say there is no coincidence, and certainly no mistakes, and carry on to our destruction in defense of...how shall I put it? My idea of myself. One will sacrifice anything for that.”

“Try to be thoughtful,
don't make the poor man say it;
see how human he is,
he has children of his own,
it is your job to ask:
Is she dead?
And he will nod and say yes
And now he can never not nod.
And now he can never say no.
And now he can never not say
yes.”

Hi. I got a perfect score in my college calculus test and it would really mean the world to me if I got a Perfect You deleted scene or something as a reward. Sincerely, an obsessed fan of your work. Haha.

Hi Elizabeth! I've just discovered your books, and I'll read more of your novels, but it's kind difficult for me to read in English because I'm French. Thanks for adding me and best wishes!
You're welcome for the add. You are definitely one of my top favorite authors. I've never been into what I call normal books (i.e. ones without anything supernatural) till I checked out Bloom by you at the library and now I'm hooked! So I thank you for writing such great books!
I just got Something, Maybe form the library and I am really excited to start reading it!!! Thank you for being such a great writer... I started reading Stealing Heaven, but I left it in a locker... It is killing me to not be able to finish it right now...! Happy Holidays!
Thank you for adding me! So far I've only read "Perfect You" and it was absolutely enthralling. (I'm aware that I'm getting "Living Dead Girl" and "Love You Hate You Miss You" for Christmas). I can't wait to start reading [them:] - they've been tempting me for so long on Goodreads that it seems weird that I'll finally have my hands on them.
