I finished “Perfect Day” this weekend. Less than eight thousand words and it took about a year to do, so it’s not exactly heralding the end of my burn-out (nor my sabbatical), but it is reassuring to know that I can still produce if and when I need to.

More reassuring was my enjoyment in the writing process. I worked on it when I felt like it -- mostly this month -- and when I didn’t feel like... read more »

Somebody Killed His Editor (Gay & Lesbian)
1 chapters   —   updated Aug 17, 2009 09:53am
Description: The road back to bestsellerdom can be deadly. Holmes & Moriarity, Book 1 Thanks to an elderly spinster sleuth and her ingenious cat, Christopher Holmes has enjoyed a celebrated career as a bestselling mystery writer. Until now. Sales are down and his new editor is allergic to geriatric gumshoes. On the advice of his agent, he reinvents his fortyish, frumpy, recently dumped self into the sleek, sexy image of a literary lion, and heads for a Northern California writers conference to try and resurrect his career. A career nearly as dead as the body he stumbles over in the woods. In a weirdly déjà vu replay of one of his own novels, he finds himself stranded in an isolated lodge full of frightened women—and not a lawman in sight. Except for J.X. Moriarity, former cop and bestselling novelist. The man with whom he shared a one-night stand—okay, maybe three—long ago. The man who wants to arrest him for murder. A ruthless, stalking killer, or a hot, handsome ex-lover. Which poses the greater danger? It’s elementary, my dear Holmes!
Lovers and Other Strangers (Gay & Lesbian)

The Ghost Wore Yellow Socks (Gay & Lesbian)
1 chapters   —   updated Aug 12, 2009 09:48am
Description: Josh's first stand-alone novel. His romantic weekend in ruins, shy twenty-something artist Perry Foster learns that things can always get worse when he returns home from San Francisco to find a dead body in his bathtub. A dead body in a very ugly sportscoat -- and matching socks. The dead man is a stranger to Perry, but that's not much of a comfort; how did a strange dead man get in a locked flat at the isolated Alton Estate in the wilds of the "Northeast Kingdom" of Vermont? Perry turns to help from "tall, dark and hostile" former navy SEAL Nick Reno -- but is Reno all that he seems?

"Love you? Of course I love you. Baby, I fucking worship you.”
Josh Lanyon, The Dark Tide (Adrien English Mystery, #5)

“I liked you the first time I saw you. You were sitting on the floor surrounded by books, and you looked up when I opened the door and smiled right at me. It felt like you had been waiting for me, like you were welcoming me home.”
Josh Lanyon, Sort of Stranger than Fiction

“A pause followed my greeting. Then “We’re watching you ” whispered the voice on the other end.
“Yeah? Did you see what I did with my keys? ”
Silence. Then dial tone.
These younger demons. So easily discouraged.”

LdDurham That one of my top authors is buying the debut novel from another of my top authors based on a review I wrote has got to be one of the greatest compliments I have ever received. I feel like a conduit for coolness. Thank you. I really hope you enjoy it! I thought the mystery was pretty cool, but I'm not a mystery buff, so I'd really like to hear your thoughts on it once you've read it.

Josh So far so good, Marc! Hope you're keeping busy.
