About this author

Karen Wojcik Berner writes contemporary fiction with a sprinkling of the classics. Her Bibliophiles series explores the lives of fictional American suburban book club members. The first, "A Whisper to a Scream," centers on Sarah, a stay-at-home mother of two, and Annie, a PR executive with fertility issues, each of whom thinks the other’s life is far superior to her own. "Until My Soul Gets It Right" chronicles Catherine Elbert’s journey as she bounces from coast to coast in search of her true self.

Unlike most series that follow one character through various adventures, each Bibliophiles novel focuses on one or two members of a fictional suburban classics book club, revealing their personal stories while the group explores tales spun by th...more

This one centers on Thaddeus, the computer programmer with the heart of a poet, and Spring, the leftover flower child who owns a juice bar. It's basically a book about love, of all sorts.(less)

With my first, the kids were small, so it was more like "Okay, I've got a half an hour while the youngest is at Mini-Gym class--Go!" I became an expert at writing on demand. Now, they are a lot older, so I actually get some time to channel the muse, which entails getting a large, caffeinated beverage and blasting the official song of whatever novel I'm writing. For Bibliophiles 3, it's "Do or Die" by 30 Seconds to Mars. (less)

I have emerged triumphant!

I've always wanted to say that. The reality is I have emerged with a completed manuscript that is on my editor's desk as I write this blog post.

Same difference, right?

It's been a crazy week, bibliophiles. My eldest started his junior year in college. His girlfriend from California came in over the weekend to visit and then to join him on their way back to school. My yo... Read more of this blog post »

I loved this book! Helen Smith draws her readers into Alison Temple's world and takes them on a wild and wacky adventure. Her insights were witty and hilarious; several made me laugh out loud. I truly enjoyed Alison and the cast of characters around...more

“Who hasn’t grown up knowing the bitchy cheerleader, a dumb jock, the computer nerd, an overbearing mother, a distant father, a misunderstood old person, or an alienated artist, writer, musician, or dancer? If everybody knows these people, are they really clichés or merely categories? Maybe the various cities, towns, neighborhoods, and blocks are really replicating microcosms? The same strands woven together to create one large tapestry of life?”
