I'm sorry, Charlie, especially after how much I liked Accelerando, but this is just thuddingly stupid. Thinly drawn characters, an even more thinly drawn world (two of them, in fact!), questionable leap into romance, and a surfeit of arch, self-aware...more

You know, I considered giving this book two stars, but it just seemed like too much of a bitchslap to an author whose first book, Then We Came to the End, I enjoyed immensely.

The first half of The Unnamed is good, it pulls you along as you wonder wh...more

Jeez, man. Way, way too long for the actual plot content here. Only the imagery/language saves it from two stars.

Meh. Takes a hundred pages to get off the ground. Then eventually comes to a weak ending where nothing is really resolved. Preachy and totally unsubtle.

This rating is for "Warriors I"-- I got the version that is split into two books. I'll let you know when I read II, which probably won't be for a while.
More of Jeff's books…
“The world needed changing - that I knew. Global warming threatened to give us all a lethal tan; war and poverty decimated whole nations; crops worldwide were shriveling; even our brethren beasts menaced us with their monkey pox and bird flu and mad cow disease.”
Jeff Deck, The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing the World, One Correction at a Time

“After graduating, I'd moved to the Washington D.C. area to see what I could do with the skills I'd picked up from a creative writing degree. The chief export of the nation's capital is, of course, paper work, so I reckoned I could land some kind of writing or editing position at one of the many nonprofits and associations in the area.”
Jeff Deck, The Great Typo Hunt: Two Friends Changing the World, One Correction at a Time

“She described to us six lanes' worth of unadulterated fear, populated exclusively by motorists whose driving education had been paid for by the blood of pedestrians.”
