About this author

After studying English Literature at Bristol University, I worked in publishing before deciding to write my own stories. I've had about twenty-five books published for children and young adults. The 'Swallowcliffe Hall' books - novels centred around a grand English country house, the family who live there and the servants who look after them - have recently been released with lovely new covers in ebook format. My website has lots of original photographs and fascinating background information on the topics covered in the series: Victorian country house servants, etiquette, horses in the Great War, preparations for the Second World War, the Kindertransport and much more. I love to read historical fiction and my favourite authors are Sebastian...more

Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver
I was disappointed by this book. Absolutely loved 'The Poisonwood Bible', so rich and vigorous, but here the writing seemed ponderous and heavy; the characters never came alive for me. Others have summarised the plot so I won't, but I felt trapped li...more
Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver
" Redneck environmentalism. Now there's a contradiction in terms.
Kingsolver's writing is up to its usual high standards, and her character development is outstanding. She just tried to stuff way too many things into one sausage casing. The result i... " Read more of this review »
