Since Torquere Press has closed the rights of all my books have reverted back to me and I'm preparing to self-publish all the books I originally published with them. I'll announce it on my page when they're available again.(less)

I knew I wanted a hero who was wounded and starting over; making him a veteran seemed obvious. As I read about gothic versus Southern gothic, something about combining the two appealed to me. I've been doing a lot of research about World War II and the decade before and after in the last few years, and it seemed like a good time to use some of that knowledge and set the story in the recent past rather than the current day.

Ideas are a stew :D. Those are the ingredients.(less)

The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera
“In spite of their love, they had made each other's life a hell. The fact that they loved each other was merely proof that the fault lay not in themselves, in their behavior or inconstancy of feeling, but rather in their incompatibility: he was strong and she was weak.”
Milan Kundera

“What does it mean to live in truth? Putting it negatively is easy enough: it means not lying, not hiding, and not dissimulating.”

Fyodor Dostoyevsky
“Men are made for happiness, and he who is completely happy has the right to say to himself, 'I am doing God's will on earth.”
Fyodor Dostoyevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Oscar Wilde
“Those who find ugly meanings in beautiful things are corrupt without being charming. This is a fault. Those who find beautiful meanings in beautiful things are the cultivated. For these there is hope. They are the elect to whom beautiful things mean only Beauty. There is no such thing as a moral or an immoral book. Books are well written, or badly written. That is all.”
Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

Diane Setterfield
“People disappear when they die. Their voice, their laughter, the warmth of their breath. Their flesh. Eventually their bones. All living memory of them ceases. This is both dreadful and natural. Yet for some there is an exception to this annihilation. For in the books they write they continue to exist. We can rediscover them. Their humor, their tone of voice, their moods. Through the written word they can anger you or make you happy. They can comfort you. They can perplex you. They can alter you. All this, even though they are dead. Like flies in amber, like corpses frozen in the ice, that which according to the laws of nature should pass away is, by the miracle of ink on paper, preserved. It is a kind of magic.”
Diane Setterfield, The Thirteenth Tale

Bob Marley
“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.”
Bob Marley

Albert Camus
“Don’t walk in front of me… I may not follow
Don’t walk behind me… I may not lead
Walk beside me… just be my friend”
Albert Camus
