“Sometimes, you have to look back in order to understand the things that lie ahead.”
Yvonne Woon, Dead Beautiful

“It helps sometimes to dwell on the good memories. They remind you that happiness does exist, though it may not seem that way now.”
Yvonne Woon, Dead Beautiful

“Dante laughed. "No cold soup, no goat cheese. I'll make a mental note. And no Gottfried Curse."
"And for you it's no food at all. No sleep. And no tunnels."
"I'm low maintenance."
"Is that what you are? Because I've been trying to figure it out all semester."
"And what have you concluded?"
"A mutant. A rare disease. A creature from the inferno. Dante."
"And what if you found out you were right?" he asked. "What if it meant that I could hurt you?"

"I would say that I'm not scared. Everyone has the ability to hurt. It's the choice that matters.”

Dead Beautiful
Dead Beautiful by Yvonne Woon by Yvonne Woon

goodreads summary-On the morning of her sixteenth birthday, Renée Winters was still an ordinary girl. She spent her summers at the beach, had the perfect best friend, and had just started dating the cutest guy at school. No one she'd ever known had died. But all that changes when she finds her parents dead in the Redwood Forest, in what appears to be a strange double murder.

After the funeral Renée’s wealthy grandfather sends her to Gottfried Academy, a remote and mysterious boarding school in Maine, where she finds herself studying subjects like Philosophy, Latin, and the “Crude Sciences.”

It’s there that she meets Dante Berlin, a handsome and elusive boy to whom she feels inexplicably drawn. As they grow closer, unexplainable things begin to happen, but Renée can’t stop herself from falling in love. It’s only when she discovers a dark tragedy in Gottfried’s past that she begins to wonder if the Academy is everything it seems.

Little does she know, Dante is the one hiding a dangerous secret, one that has him fearing for her life.

Dead Beautiful is both a compelling romance and thought-provoking read, bringing shocking new meaning to life, death, love, and the nature of the soul.

Generation Dead
Generation Dead (Generation Dead, #1) by Daniel Waters by Daniel Waters

goodreads summary-Phoebe Kendall is just your typical Goth girl with a crush. He’s strong and silent…and dead.

All over the country, a strange phenomenon is occurring. Some teenagers who die aren't staying dead. But when they come back to life, they are no longer the same. Feared and misunderstood, they are doing their best to blend into a society that doesn’t want them.
The administration at Oakvale High attempts to be more welcoming of the “differently biotic." But the students don’t want to take classes or eat in the cafeteria next to someone who isn’t breathing. And there are no laws that exist to protect the “living impaired” from the people who want them to disappear—for good.
When Phoebe falls for Tommy Williams, the leader of the dead kids, no one can believe it; not her best friend, Margi, and especially not her neighbor, Adam, the star of the football team. Adam has feelings for Phoebe that run much deeper than just friendship; he would do anything for her. But what if protecting Tommy is the one thing that would make her happy?

Maze Runner

The Maze Runner (Maze Runner, #1) by James Dashner by James Dashner

goodreads summary-Imagine waking up one day in total darkness, unsure of where you are and unable to remember anything about yourself except your first name. You're in a bizarre place devoid of adults called the Glade. The Glade is an enclosed structure with a jail, a graveyard, a slaughterhouse, living quarters, and gardens. And no way out. Outside the Glade is the Maze, and every day some of the kids -- the Runners -- venture into the labyrinth, trying to map the ever-changing pattern of walls in an attempt to find an exit from this hellish place. So far, no one has figured it out. And not all of the Runners return from their daily exertions, victims of the maniacal Grievers, part animal, part mechanical killing machines.

Thomas is the newest arrival to the Glade in this Truman-meets-Lord of the Flies tale. A motley crew of half a dozen kids is all he has to guide him in this strange world. As soon as he arrives, unusual things begin to happen, and the others grow suspicious of him. Though the Maze seems somehow familiar to Thomas, he's unable to make sense of the place, despite his extraordinary abilities as a Runner. What is this place, and does Thomas hold the key to finding a way out?

In The Maze Runner, Dashner has crafted a creative and engaging novel that's both mysterious and thought provoking.

Luke and Jon
Luke and Jon by Robert Williams by Robert Williams
[image error]

goodreads summary-Luke's mum is dead. He finds himself in a small, scruffy northern hill town, with a near silent father, who he fears might be trying to drink himself to death. Then he meets Jon. Jon is massively strange. He wears 1950s clothes, has a side-parting and a twitch. The kids at school call him 'Slackjaw'. When Luke discovers his secret, Jon changes his life in more ways than he can imagine. Luke and Jon is a coming of age novel about family, bereavement and how lives can change forever in a single second. Written with great power, warmth and humour, it signals a hugely engaging and original new voice. Compelling and emotionally acute, it is a unique debut.

HasiVA OMG! I just finished reading Dead Beautiful and I am awed! Your book has the priceless quality of an excellent read and I loved every moment of it! Dante and Renee are the best couple ever. I love how you have mixed different genres together in this book. That cliffhanger ending is so suspensing! You are an awesome author! Also, I love Gottfried Academy!

Lidush Hi Yvonne! Thanks for friending :)

Holli Yvonne, ... I just got done reading Dead Beautiful, and my jaw is dropped. I can't say I'm totally speechless but the only thing I can manage to say is "HOLY CRAP!". Once I'm over my momentary shock, (which will probably last the entirety of the weekend), I will write a review so you can hear how incredibly riveting your book is. (Like you don't already know!?) My only complaint is that Life Eternal isn't out yet! Talk about a cliff hanger! KILLER! Congratulations on such a unique and amazing book! I'm in love! Dante *SWOON* :)

Yvonne hi! thanks!!! it really is a great book--it has this really slow, mounting suspense that i haven't really seen in other books. highly recommend!

Katie Hi Yvonne, thankyou for accepting my friend request. I absolutely loved Dead Beautiful and the cliffhanger has left me wanting more! :)

Adrianna I loved your book! It was such a good cliffhanging end since we don't know what will happen to him now if he returns her soul. My friend made a funny comment when I told him how it ended. He said that they could just keep kissing each other and sharing the soul. I said that couldn't work because you said that the soul would leave the body but since it is Dante's actual soul it wouldn't leave. I can't wait for the next book :)I be honest I asked to be your friend on here so that I could add this comment lol

Sangria Thanks for your friendship, Yvonne! :D

Jenniffer Mendez Hi Yvonne- I was thinking of reading Fingersmith. Is it really a great book as you rated it?
