The author was born in a small village called Friemersheim in the district of Mossel Bay, Southern Cape, South Africa, where she attended Primary school. Subsequently she went to Esselen Park High School, Worcester where she obtained a School Leaving Certificate (Matric)

After studying for a BA Course in Social Work at the University of the Western Cape. (January 1973 till June 1976) Subsequently she taught English and gave Vocational Guidance at Belhar Senior Secondary School and also worked as Community Worker on the Cape Flats before being forced into exile in September of 1980.

She completed a BA degree in Sociology and Political Theory and Institutions at the University of Sheffield in 1984. Subsequently she moved to Greece (due to marri
