About this author

'Nathan Burgoine grew up a reader and studied literature in university while making a living as a bookseller--a job he still does, and still loves. His first published short story was "Heart" in the collection Fool for Love: New Gay Fiction. Since then, he has had over two dozen short stories published, including This is How You Die (the second Machine of Death anthology).

His first novel, Light, is available from Bold Strokes Books and is a finalist for both the Lambda Literary Award for LGBT SF/Fantasy/Horror, and the BOTYA 2013 Gay & Lesbian (Adult Fiction) ForeWord award. His first novella-length work, "In Memoriam," is included in the collection On the Run, by Wilde City Press.

A cat lover, 'Nathan managed to fall in love and marry D...more

Since rescuing a dog, however, I find myself taking him for a walk or having a good conversation about why I'm stumped with him. He doesn't often come up with ideas, but he's a great listener.(less)

Sometimes those themes are ones I never would have considered myself - actually, any time I've worked with Jerry L. Wheeler the themes have been fantastic: erotica + circuses; erotica + food; erotica + trains - and in each case I went somewhere I wouldn't have likely gone without that theme being suggested: a knife thrower, an ice wine, and the Ottawa Grand Trunk station, respectively.

I also sometimes bump into ideas just in my day to day. "Cakewalk" was written based on the first line, "There once was a princess named Anna," when I was struggling for an idea and asked a co-worker what she thought of an idea I was working on. She suggested that line as a good starting spot. Coincidentally, her name is Anna.(less)

Oh my gosh I really enjoyed this.

This shouldn't be a surprise. After all, I've read Andy Squared and Meeting Chance and both those books were great. This third YA title from Lavoie continues the trend.

The basic narrative sounds simple: young gay Tris...more

I enjoyed the stories in this anthology -- after all, it contains a favorite tale of queer villainy, Hal Duncan's "The Origin of the Fiend" -- but can I just say how much I absolutely loved the introduction by Tom Cardamone? We don't say en... " Read more of this review »
