TinkersTinkers by Paul Harding

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A clear departure from convention- poetic, honest, and moving. This is not a book to be read, but absorbed and treasured.

The idea of The Hunger Game series was better than the execution of the novels. Not being a huge fan of the first two, I didn't expect much from Mockingjay so was not disappointed. I found Katnis' point of view limited the plot. What would be entire...more

Chabon has an amazing grasp for scene and setting, and his use of personification, metaphor, and simile is unparalleled. But unfortunately, The Yiddish Policeman's Union just wasn't my cup of tea. The novel spins its wheels too much in the beginning...more

No one can deny the power of Morrison's poetic voice nor the gripping nature of her story. Her characters take the reader through a dark retelling of American history, filled with all the joys and heartaches of the emancipated slave as they struggle...more

Like the great game it conveys, The Natural is more than the sum of its parts. Read the book and then watch the movie. The first will leave you feeling both empty and complete. The second will complete the inevitable question, "What if?"

I wonderful lesson on characterization and point of view- none of which is entirely clear and oh so disturbing.
