Jonathan Anthony Stroud is an author of fantasy books, mainly for children and youths.

Stroud grew up in St Albans where he enjoyed reading books, drawing pictures, and writing stories. Between the ages seven and nine he was often ill, so he spent most of his days in the hospital or in his bed at home. To escape boredom he would occupy himself with books and stories. After he completed his studies of English literature at the University of York, he worked in London as an editor for the Walker Books store. In May 1999, Stroud published his first children's novel, Buri

I really like making three-dimensional worlds which are internally consistent in this way. It's quite hard, but somehow very satisfying when it begins to mesh together. And it gets easier as it goes along, too...(less)

On Tuesday night we held the launch party for The Hollow Boy at Daunts Bookstore in Chelsea, London. It was the perfect venue, since Chelsea is the site of the book’s primary ghost epidemic, and all the adults present were frankly risking their lives venturing out to the party as darkness fell. We kicked off with some interactive games - a ‘Hunt the Ghost’ map of Chelsea, where everyone had to...

description: Hello there agents,

Lockwood & Co: The Hollow Boy, the third book in the Lockwood series, will be published in the UK on 24th September. The only graphic novel on my list. A beautifully drawn account of modern adolescent awkwardness, being an outsider… and having a ghost on hand to help you out. JS
More of Jonathan's books…
“According to some, heroic deaths are admirable things. I've never been convinced by this argument, mainly because, no matter how cool, stylish, composed, unflappable, manly, or defiant you are, at the end of the day you're also dead. Which is a little too permanent for my liking.”
Jonathan Stroud, Ptolemy's Gate

“One magician demanded I show him an image of the love of his life. I rustled up a mirror.”
Jonathan Stroud, The Amulet of Samarkand

“A dozen more questions occurred to me. Not to mention twenty-two possible solutions to each one, sixteen resulting hypotheses and counter-theorems, eight abstract speculations, a quadrilateral equation, two axioms, and a limerick. That's raw intelligence for you.”
Jonathan Stroud, Ptolemy's Gate
