Description:
In August 1952 a county hospital in a California farm town discharged two newborn boys with the wrong families. In April 2003 I was a middle school English teacher and recovering from the end of a twenty-two-year marriage. Doctors had just diagnosed me with diabetes, long-term sleep deprivation, severe apnea, and a brain tumor. That’s when I first heard that I had been switched at birth.
The discovery triggered an emotional meltdown, alcohol and substance abuse, a string of teaching jobs, several months in veterans' hospitals and programs, unemployment, and homelessness.
ADRIFT, How Discovering I Was Switched at Birth Changed My Life is a memoir about loss of identity, a record of coming back from psychological trauma, and a commentary on family, social change, and growing up in America.
200 pages (paperback edition) and 200 hyperlinks to photos, documents, videos, and music
