about this author

Eliza Cross is the author of five books, including her latest cookbook 101 Things To Do With Bacon published earlier this year by Gibbs Smith (and already in its third printing). In 2009 she and Darla Worden co-authored The Rusty Parrot Cookbook (Gibbs Smith) and in 2006 Northland Publishing released Family Home of the New West, which won the Colorado Authors League Top Hand Award for Best Service and Informational Nonfiction Book. She is also the author of two editions of the award-winning Food Lovers' Guide to Colorado (Morris Book Publishing, 2003 and 2006).

More than 200 of Eliza's articles have appeared in a variety of publications including Parents, Writers' Digest and Natural Home. She is a regular contributor to Mountain Living magazine, and a Senior Contributing Editor for Western Art & Architecture magazine. Eliza has appeared on television dozens of times, including morning show appearances for ABC-TV in Phoenix and CBS-4 in Denver. She was a contestant on the Food Network's short-lived show Trivia Unwrapped, and although she didn't win the grand prize she received a year's supply of Raisinets as a parting gift.

Eliza has contributed to several anthologies, including 60 Candles: Reflections on the Writing Life published by the American Society of Journalists and Authors. In 2010, she won the "Pitchapalooza" competition - called the American Idol for book authors - at the Writers and the Independent Marketplace Conference presented by the Mountain & Plains Independent Booksellers Association. Her prize was a fabulous consultation about her upcoming novel with Arielle Eckstut and David Henry Sterry, The Book Doctors, and she'll share more details about the book soon.

She enjoys encouraging young writers, and in addition to school appearances Eliza has taught writing classes including “Writing Your Life” and “Finding Your Voice through Creative Writing” for the Arapahoe Library District and other organizations. She also blogs about eco-friendly living, good food, organic gardening and personal finance at Happy Simple Living.

Eliza is a member of the American Society of Journalists and Authors and Colorado Authors League, and lives with her family in Denver.
