I grew up a cop's kid and always wanted to help my mom solve her cases. I once considered being a detective, but I was way too conflict-averse (scared) to go into the crime-solving business. Luckily, writing fiction gives me the chance to play a detective on paper and do one of my favorite things in the universe - tell stories.
