About this author

Victoria Twead nagged her long-suffering partner, Joe, into moving from England to Spain in 2004. They settled into a tiny mountain village in Andalucía, became reluctant chicken farmers and ended up owning probably the most dangerous cockerel in Spain.
Victoria’s hilarious record of their culture shock and life with the villagers is told in her new book, Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools, awarded the HarperCollins Gold Star.

Joe and I were sorting out boxes, unopened and stored since my parents died in 1993. Imagine our astonishment when we came across a complete manuscript called ‘Horizon Fever’ written by A E Filby, my uncle. It describes his 37,000-mile journey from London to Cape Town, and back again, in various motor cars, including an Austin 20 which is now displayed by the British Motor Museum (see pic abov... read more »

Chickens, Mules and Two Old Fools (Travel)
1 chapters   —   updated Apr 15, 2010 11:24am
Description: Perhaps if Joe and Vicky had known what relocating to a tiny village tucked in the Alpujarra mountains would really be like, they might have hesitated...  They have no idea of the culture shock in store. No idea they will become reluctant chicken farmers and own the most dangerous cockerel in Spain. No idea they will be befriended by an 85 year old spliff-smoking sex-kitten, help rescue a vulture or rescued by a mule. Life is never dull as they embark on their Five Year Plan. At the end of five years they must decide. Will they stay or return to the relative sanity of England? Vicky and Joe’s story is packed with irreverent humour, animals, eccentric characters and sunshine. ‘A truly hilarious page-turner.’ Awarded HarperCollins 'Gold Star'. www.VictoriaTwead.com

Elaine Victoria,

I want to recommend Therapy by Harrie Rose to you, but somehow the Recommend page you get to after reviewing the book only show about six names and I haven't been able to scroll down. I gave this 5 stars and I thik you'd like it. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/85...
It's available on Amazon & Barnes and Noble so far. Press releases aren't out yet, so it's not everywhere yet.
