I’m very excited to announce that I’m working on the third book in the Confessions series—I can’t tell you how happy I am about that. Thanks for your support, and for all the emails and Tweets and Facebook messages encouraging me to do so!

In honor of the continuation of the series, I thought I’d post this photo, which might amuse those of you who are fans of Rose Zarelli. (Special thanks to my mom, who spent a few weeks searching for it!) In Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend, Rose auditions...

So, last night I went to see a really fantastic documentary called 20 Feet From Stardom, about the unsung heros of the music industry (pun intended), aka, backup singers. It is a spectacular movie featuring some of the greatest musicians alive, and their stories are heartbreaking, inspiring, and amazing. If you love music, you must go see it. (Also, if you thought you disliked Phil Spector before...)

In other news, I’m very excited to be on a panel for the School Library Journal’s Summer Teen...

Last night I had my first experience at the Hollywood Bowl, and I could not have asked for a better event than a Grease sing-a-long! Seriously. It was awesome. There were 12,000 people there—many of them in Pink Lady costumes or wigs—singing along with “Summer Nights” and “You’re the One that I Want” at the top of their lungs. I hadn’t seen the movie in a long time, and I’d forgotten about the amazing, animated opening credits—total genius!—and a lot of the double-entendre, super-sassy dialog...

Well, clearly this baby thinks Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend is delicious!

The book signing at Chevalier’s Books was so much fun, thanks in large part to the awesome manager Norman, who treated me like a rock star. So many great people came out and supported this wonderful independent bookstore by buying copies of Almost-Girlfriend, as well as lots of other books in the store! It was a really fun day. I read the Anything Goes audition scene, since there were so many actors in the crowd,...

I’m SO excited to be signing books and eating cupcakes at Chevalier’s today. If you’re in the LA area, please come by! We’ll be there from 2 to 4 pm. If you haven’t been to Chevalier’s, you have to check it out—it’s such a lovely bookstore, and the people there are fantastic.

There are so many cool books out today—I’m super excited that CONFESSIONS OF AN ALMOST-GIRLFRIEND is sharing a birthday with Amanda Sun’s INK (isn’t that cover GORGEOUS?!) and Demitria Lunetta’s IN THE AFTER. Both books are on their way to me in the mail and I CANNOT WAIT!

Release day is so fun—interacting with bloggers and fans, going to the bookstore to snap pics of your book on the table, reading reviews, watching the giveaway numbers climb. It’s a real treat. And I’m doing a blog tour this...

June 14, 2013

Yesterday, I read a review of Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend that really impressed me in terms of the reviewer’s insight. The reviewer, Brittany of Findmeinabook.com, wrote about her daily struggle with depression--“I fight a daily battle with depression”--and how it affects her ability to express herself. She picked up on the fact that Rose’s depression is not an “I hate everything” depression, but rather a “Why don’t I like anything” depression, which is an important distinction. The l...

As I think I’ve mentioned before, one of my favorite things about being an author is meeting super cool bloggers. Booknut 101 is one of my faves. She is a great writer who gives thoughtful, insightful and passionate reviews (and I’m not just saying that because she happens to be a fan of the Confessions series—I swear!). Right now, she’s got a really fun poll going on her blog that asks, So far, the Feistiest Female is Ruby Moore from the G...

May 24, 2013

Yesterday, my box of books arrived. It’s truly one of the greatest things an author can experience, I think. The doorbell rings, the dog barks, the door is opened, and there is the friendly UPS person, holding a box of books with your name on it. And then you open the box, and there they are! It’s very exciting...

Lester was feeling slightly proprietary about the Confessions of an Almost-Girlfriend box, as you can see above. He actually dropped his frisbee to check it out, and then insisted on...
