About this author

Steve has written all his life, usually for money, often because he just can’t help himself. He has been a professional journalist for nearly three decades and his work has appeared in national dailies and magazines of a bewildering variety. He's covered a number of beats, including IT & technology, travel, business and defence.

Today, Steve's journalism focuses on information security. He is editor of the journals Network Security and Computer Fraud & Security and a Certified Ethical Hacker.

He's also a keen pilot and professional photographer. These passions came together in three non-fiction aviation photo books published by Airlife and Osprey (and Motorbooks in the US): Cherry Point, Kaneohe Bay and Photographing A...more

Lady Caine (Literature & Fiction)
3 chapters   —   updated Nov 19, 2009 03:21am
Description: The Weird Side of the War on Drugs A strange cast of misfits is on the hunt for a missing pilot - either for what he has or what he knows. The story is set in 1995, as the War on Drugs exerts its increasingly bizarre effects on the bizarre underworld of narcotic contraband. In Colombia, tenth-rate drug lords make desperate bids for glory - mostly by betraying each other. For them, the pilot holds the key to power. In Florida, a disillusioned crew of ex-smugglers is intent on rescuing a friend, while dealing with a society that is afraid of getting old and handling it badly. And a decaying mercenary is tracking the pilot too, for reasons more personal than even he realizes. Each member of this weird posse poses a threat to the others. But their greatest danger comes from their own egos, paranoia, incompetence and inability to cope. The result is a strange and hilarious adventure on the weirder fringes of international drug crime.

An entertaining but also timely book laying out the reasons why evolution is not 'just' a theory - it is fact. Indeed, as Dawkins points out, facts have a lower burden of proof that scientific theories. So evolution is not just a fact, it is more - i...more

Superb account of the landing on the Hudson and how, while Sullenberger acted with great skill, the plane was also a hero that day.
