It seems fair to say that wild places form a big part of my life. My recent novel Wildlight is set on remote Maatsuyker Island, home to Australia's loneliest lighthouse where my partner Gary and I spent several months in isolation. I have wintered and summered in Antarctica, the setting for my first novel The Nature of Ice. Each and every year I don woolly cap and gloves to climb aboard a small ice-strengthened ship that sails the high seas to polar regions on adventure tourist voyages. My guiding role helped me co-author a young readers' illustrated book Epic Adventure: Epic Voyages. Right now you will find me busy at work on a wild new novel. Please visit me at my website.

I learned a lot from this charming YA novel. With great sensitivity Kathryn Lomer explores fragile relationships amongst young adults who are navigating imperfect friendships, parental loss, first love, and new ways of connecting.

I loved this book, a gift from a writing friend to me, a writer. (Thank you, friend.) Funny, touching, generous and honest; enjoyed over a couple of sittings.

“A writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.”
Thomas Mann, Essays of Three Decades

“They took to silence. They touched each other without comment and without progression. A hand on a hand, a clothed arm, resting on an arm. An ankle overlapping an ankle, as they sat on a beach, and not removed. One night they fell asleep, side by side... He slept curled against her back, a dark comma against her pale elegant phrase.”
